OMG deep breaths. Where is my xanax. We just got a message on our phone from the principal saying that they are changing our ds kindy class to a K-1st grade combo. WTF. We are only on day 6 here. They just added a 3rd kindy teacher to make the class size smaller. Our ds has the new teacher who has experience with ASD. They put all three ASD kids in her class (mainstream). So now they are heaping a combo class on her as well as the 3 ASD kids?
The other two kindy teachers are older and have been at this school a long time. They should do the combo NOT the new teacher.
So are the class sizes bigger now? My ds is very bright but socially emotionally he is about at a 3 yo level. This whole week he tells me in a panic that he doesn't want to go to school because the teacher makes him do too much. How, how, how, is he supposed to do this?
I don't know all the details yet but we plan to complain to principal tomorrow. I am so upset. This is my only child so I am a newby to schools. Please tell me how to make sense of this and what it could mean for my child.

Unfortunately seniority rules in education. The new teacher's always get shafted. Dh has been the new teacher at threee differnt schools over the last few years and always got the hard assignments (lower level classes, tougher kids etc). As for the k/1st combo. Are these 1st graders what I would endearling call pre-1st (a nice PC way of saying too immature to be in first grade but too advanced to be starrting kindy again If that is the case you may be ok.
Let us know how it goes

Thanks Dee, you are so right about senority. The day before we got this call they sent a newsletter that the 1st and 3rd grades were too big and they were looking for volunteers to transfer to other schools. Seems like no one voluteered within 24 hours so they came up with this. Not sure though guess we may not find out.
I'm doing a separate post to update.
