Products for oral stim-chewing things?
| Mon, 08-07-2006 - 7:57pm |
A while back some people here posted sites where one can by products for kids who like to chew and eat things. There was something that was shaped as a T, and other products. Could someone provide those links please since I have lost them. I think that a necklace-type thing would be best for my 8 year old Aspie so that he doesn't eat his shirts, preferable something that would be OK to wear to school and not look too geeky!
Thanks!

I was the one having the same problem with my son.

Here's my favorite site for stuff like that:
pfot.com (stands for "Pocket Full of Therapy")
They have products for just about every kind of therapeutic need you could imagine.

I too have an 8 yr old aspie that chews on everything.......it is getting better......now almost 95% of the chewing occurs at school and it has decreased some. Kindergarten and 1st grade were the worst......he also wasn't diagnosed yet so we did not know why he was chewing on everything. We tried the chew necklace in 1st grade and he hated it and got made fun of. THis past year, with the help of an intervention specialist, I supplied the guidance counselor with packs of sugar-free gum and other chewy or crunchy snacks......that did the trick.
I feel your pain......son chewed on clothes when he was younger but once he got into school....I had to replace his school supplies almost weekly......crayons, pencils, markers, erasers, glue sticks, glue bottles, plastic handles on scissors, etc......he chewed them all.....
Good luck,
Christie
Thanks, everyone.
Does anyone know the size of that chew T? Is it small enough to wear around the neck without being too noticed? I got some other necklaces and will see if they work.
My ds had stimming (oral) for a moment (they go back and forth constantly), but his speech therapist gave me a copy of her personal/professional tool mags.
It's called Talk Tools. Try to find their website. The cups we bought for ds are great and the stim tools they offer are helpful too.
good luck
