Oh I do hope for this to work out! Thanks, lr.
Wow. Weird this is coming up as my kids are teenagers
I am thinking back too the tons of conversations we have had here in the past contemplating the future that is quickly approaching....."if there was a cure would you give it to your child if it changed them"...etc.
Now that my children are older I would of course ask them first but what would I think of their answers and decisions? Would I agree?
It was easy to say when drugs to change core deficits where just a pipe dream. "No! I love my children as they are...." "Definitely I would give them a med because...." Wow.
Now that this time is approaching answers change, oppinions change....life and circumstances change.
I am in a much different place in life now that these advances are getting closer than I did a number of years ago when this was the science fiction pipe dream of the future. I wonder what my kids would really answer if given a real choice. So far it seems like cait would be the first in line if she accepted she was actually autistic (she used to, she doesn't want to anymore and no one knows) and I think Mike would say NO WAY! He appears to think autism makes him better than your average bear. But that is just my guess. i wonder.....Tonight Mike got "unfriended" by a girl he had a crush on. He was sweet. He was always appropriate with her. BUT he told ehr he was autistic and since then she has been ....distant and even cold. She unfriended him today after months of nonresponse to any communicative intent. I read all his facebook posts and all posts to this girl. All have been very appropriate, friendly and sweet adn not overly frequent. It would appear she lost interest as soon as she heard autism. So now I wonder if he wouldn't get rid of that if given the option...
