To most people, this wouldn't seem like a big deal, but I know that you all will greatly understand my joy.........

Tristan has been invited to a birthday campout!!!!!!!!!!

One of his friends is having his 8th birthday party as a campout at his house, and even hand delivered the invite to Tristan!!!! I think I was almost more excited than he was!! ROFL This is, no kidding, THE FIRST invite that he has ever been invited to!! Sure, he and Hollyann have been "invited" to parties for kids of OUR friends, but I don't really count those. This was from HIS friend!!

The campout is tomorrow night, and he just can't wait. Yes, we know the parents rather well - the guys work together. Plus, it's a neighbor of ours.....we go in our backyard, and looking across the courtyard we can clearly see their backyard. The plan is - weather permitting!! - the dad is pitching a big tent for all the kids to sleep in, and he will also be out there all night in a smaller, seperate tent. The parents are also very aware of Tristan's condition, and don't see a problem with it at all. (oh....have I mentioned that their other kids are 11month old twins? These people are saints!! ROFL)

Hubby and I are just so excited for Tristan!! It was joyous enough when he started having friends come to the door to ask him to play. (I absolutely LOVE the sound of "Can Tristan come out and play?" Oh - it's music to my ears!!!!!) But now, he has truely been welcomed into the inner-circle of friends, and this Momma's heart couldn't be any happier!!!!

WOO HOO Carrie!!!! That's great! And WOO HOO for Tristan!!!! I'll bet he's super excited. You're right, that's a huge step socially, and a wonderful thing. I know what you're sayin about other parents not being able to understand something like this. I was glowing three shades of brilliant the first time Jade managed to get a new friend's phone # at the park all on her own. Most of my friends didn't understand why DH and I were so excited for her. But to actually be invited to a party, and a sleep over at that! WOW. That's great!

I hope he has a marvelous time. Make sure to tell us what happened.

Oh wow! That is so exciting! I was just coming here to post a similar joy of mine! As we speak right now (type, whatever) - my ds is at a sleepover w/ his friend! I mentioned to dh the other night that he needed to go visit w/ this kid's dad (friend of dh's) and sort of bring up ds to see what the family thinks. B/c ds spends a lot of time over there on the weekends but the kid can't ever come over here. (We live on a different street, close to a busy street) See, I was worried that ds was obsessing over there and would drive the family (and his friend) nuts so I was hoping dh could feel it out a little and see how they feel about ds being over there. Then today, the mom dropped the friend off here to play! (I was mortified b/c my house was HORRIBLE! lol) And then he came and asked ME if ds could stay the night! YEA! So when they went to his house to play, I told ds to call me if he can stay the night and i'd bring his clothes over. So he called, and I took his clothes over and talked for just a minute to the parents (ds was kicking me out the door! lol) and they seemed really excited that ds was there! This friend doesn't have many friends of his own either so these two boys have really attached to each other. I'm SO exctied about this - also b/c they don't know he has asperger's. He's really a good kid at other people's houses (well, at home too) so I'm not worried about not telling them b/c he doesn't do some really odd things that they would need to be worried about. He walks on his toes, obsesses about things, etc but at other people's houses, he's really polite, follows the rules, listens to the parents (imagine that! lol), etc. I'll see how it goes tomorrow. THe friend wanted him to stay all weekend! WOW! I'm so thrilled my ds has a friend of his own! :)

I'm excited for both of us! YEA!

Good for your ds! My dd has been @ her school for 3 yrs. & has never been invited to a sleepover or party. We have had her best friend over for a sleepover though & that went well. My dd doesn't see her anymore because CPS took her away from Mom & she now lives with Granny. My dd really misses her! I hope your son has fun. I know how you feel & it brings tears to my eyes reading your post -MaryAnn
