Any Texas ladies out there? The Austin area specifically? An opportunity has been dropped in our laps, and I'm interested in speaking, via e-mail, with somebody who either lives there currently, or can speak from first hand experience.

Thanks!

Hi Amy! It's the other Amy speaking...I'm a "Texas lady", but not from Austin. I wish I could be more help. Maybe there will be someone else on the board from the Austin area.

Have a great day!

Amy,

I'm sure it's just a rumor, but I have heard tell that Texas is full of Texans.

Another Texas Mom here. My SIL is in Austin but we're in El Paso atm. Hopefully we'll be in Killeen come June tho (fingers crossed) which puts us 45 min north of Austin.

Ooooh oooh oooh! Hooray!!! Lots of people to talk to. :-)

I know that every school district is different, but overall...how happy are you with the availability of services in Texas??? My DH got one of those out-of-the-blue calls today, from a man he considers his mentor, and the opportunity sounds great. We've been looking to get out of Illinois, but had been focusing on the Carolinas. Now, having done some research into the area, Texas is looking pretty darn good to me.

So...any thoughts?

Amy

p.s.-if you prefer to not air your feelings about the Lone Star state publically, feel free to e-mail via my profile. :-)

I've had to fight kicking and screaming for the services here in EL Paso. I think because we're so close to the border, and because SO many Mexican children can go to US schools if they have one relative that lives on this side of the border, the school concentrate on helping those kids receive an education and special needs gets pushed behind everything else. I have no idea what Austin is like but I do know that up in Killeen the services are more easily available, especially if they are already in place. They want to make the transition as easy as possible for the children.

Personally, being that I was raised in NC myself, I would choose NC over Texas as far as the availablity of services. But that's Just my 2 cents.
