Hi. Anyone on the boards been through this with DD? The pedicatrician thinks that Ayrika is soon to start, and I am a basketcase! For starters, she is incontinent. She wears diapers all day and night. Second, her adaptive behavior is about 3 years behind. This basically means she is very immature for her age. We have consulted with an Endocrinologist to consider treating her with growth hormone injections to hold it off for a few years. Not sure if that is right answer or not, but my gut instinct leans that way. We had also considered the Depo shot after it's in full swing thinking the chance to stop menstrual cycles will be there. Her self-decency and self-help skills are very poor and I am absolutely dreading this! Any advice would be great! Thanks.

Hello,
I have been through it but my daughter was not as delayed as you are mentioning and it was still rough.
If you can hold it off a few years then I would do that. We were just discussing this issue on the autism spectrum disorders board as well. I gave lots of btdt stuff there that I can repeat if you like.
How old is your daughter. The nice thing I found is that the symptoms seem to start a very long time before the actual period so I was waiting for dd's for over a year thinking it was coming. I guess that is quite common. And then when it starts it can go months or even more than a year in between. With the growth hormones you may be able ot hold if off past that to when she is more ready.

Hi, Renee.
Thanks for the post. Ayrika is 9 years old. The doctors told me to expect her actual period to start sometime between 1-2 years after her breast buds appeared. I will have to check out that discussion on the other board....

Hi there,
I have no actual experience with puberty and and AS daughter, I just wanted to advise against Depo. I took it myself as my form of BC for 9 months and it is vicious. It now carries an FDA black box warning because it severely decreases bone density in people who use it for any length of time (and the qualifying length of time is NOT long at all). Between the HORRIFIC side effects and high risk of early onset osteoporosis, I discontinued immediately. I'd just urge you to look into Depo a little bit more before you pursue it. Just my two cents.
(((HUGS))) to you and I hope you find some things to help you and DD along. :o)
OOO wow.
Thanks for that information. I will definitely be checking into it. The bad thing is, everything has risks and side effects. It is a matter of weighing pros and cons of every medicine. Are you aware of any other birth control or hormone treatment that stops your actual period? I have to admit that I haven't really heard of any others. I take the Ortho Evra Patch for a hormone disorder and because my family has a hisotry of MS. I know that one does not stop your cycle. Thanks for any other info you have!
