Question about chewable supplement
| Thu, 11-09-2006 - 3:37pm |
I found some orange chewable Omega-3 supplements at Target today. I got them for Henry, but when I got home I started wondering if they were "adult" strength.
It doesn't say "children's" anywhere on the package, and the directions don't say anything like--"Adults: Chew one tab once a day" or whatever.
Can I give it to Henry?
He is 6 years old and weighs almost 45 pounds.
Can you get too much Omega-3??

Omega 3 is made up of DHA and EPA.
Of course, the bag says that there is no fishy aftertaste.
I'm not really a taster, but--for you--I'll go taste one.
BRB.
Okay, I'm chewing one right now.
They smell good. They are super-mushy. I think my 15-month-old could even eat these.
They're called Heart Healthy Origin Omega-3 Soft Chews. 120 mg in each chew.
They were in the vitamin/supplement aisle at Target--right beside the bottle of flax oil.
It tasted fine--*very* reminiscent of those kids' fruit chews--the baby ones.
I gave one to Henry, also.
He said it tasted like a Starburst, and he liked it.
Here's what the back of the package says:
Whatever that means.
120mg is an extremely small dose. Though he enjoys it and any little bit helps.
Nordic Naturals kids one is 500mg I believe and that is the smallest I have ever seen. I consistently give my kids 1000mg a day. For Mike for a while I was giving him 2000mg a day and it did help. Then after a while when it seemed like it wasn't effective anylonger (system was flooded perhaps) I took him off. He is back on 1000 a day but I have to get more consistent about it again.
BTW, I give Dave 1000 a day and he is also 6.

Thanks for posting this Robin!
Renee speaks the truth, 135mg is a ridiculosly low dose, but it does depend on what you want it for.
