Question about chewable supplement

I found some orange chewable Omega-3 supplements at Target today. I got them for Henry, but when I got home I started wondering if they were "adult" strength.

It doesn't say "children's" anywhere on the package, and the directions don't say anything like--"Adults: Chew one tab once a day" or whatever.

Can I give it to Henry?

He is 6 years old and weighs almost 45 pounds.

Can you get too much Omega-3??

Omega 3 is made up of DHA and EPA.

I haven't found any Omegas that I can get my kids to gag down on a regular basis. Even the well-disguised flavor ones still leave a bit of a fishy aftertaste that my kids can't tolerate. This is the first I'd heard about chewables, though (we've tried a variety of liquids & cremes). What do these chewables taste like? If you think they're not too bad, I'll run on out to Target and grab some for my kids!

Of course, the bag says that there is no fishy aftertaste.

I'm not really a taster, but--for you--I'll go taste one.

BRB.

Okay, I'm chewing one right now.

They smell good. They are super-mushy. I think my 15-month-old could even eat these.

They're called Heart Healthy Origin Omega-3 Soft Chews. 120 mg in each chew.

They were in the vitamin/supplement aisle at Target--right beside the bottle of flax oil.

It tasted fine--*very* reminiscent of those kids' fruit chews--the baby ones.

I gave one to Henry, also.

He said it tasted like a Starburst, and he liked it.

Here's what the back of the package says:

  • Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. One serving of Origin Omega-3 Soft Chews provides 105 mg of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Each Origin Omega-3 Soft Chew provides 120 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Whatever that means.

120mg is an extremely small dose. Though he enjoys it and any little bit helps.

Nordic Naturals kids one is 500mg I believe and that is the smallest I have ever seen. I consistently give my kids 1000mg a day. For Mike for a while I was giving him 2000mg a day and it did help. Then after a while when it seemed like it wasn't effective anylonger (system was flooded perhaps) I took him off. He is back on 1000 a day but I have to get more consistent about it again.

BTW, I give Dave 1000 a day and he is also 6.

Bless your wonderful soul for tasting them for me! If they really taste like Starbursts, there's a great chance I can get them into my kids (and at such a low dose, they can even eat them like candy!). Target is just around the corner, and I'm headed there first thing in the morning! Thank you, thank you, thank you for trying these out!!!

Hi, I was told that the B comlex vitamins are also helpful. I know the supplements get discussed here ALOT. This was from the mouth of a psychiatrist who treats autistic spectrum kids.I had my dd on these for awhile (an adult dose because she was 12@ the time}. She hated the taste of the B's & it turned her pee radioactive yellow as she called it. I myself take Omegas, fish oil & flaxseed oil for high cholesterol.I hope it also helps my peri-menopausal brain LOL I never thought about giving it to my Aspie dd. I'm all about the natural supplements. Take care~ Mary Ann

Renee speaks the truth, 135mg is a ridiculosly low dose, but it does depend on what you want it for.
