I have posted this on other boards so please forgive me if you see me repeat myself.. :)

Hi, I'm new here and just had a few questions.. My DS is almost 8, has severe ADHD, but also has Aspergers, he currently takes Risperdal for mood issues, but it does very little to control his energy level or focus at school, some days he is down right out of control, almost being suspended off of the special needs bus.. He is extremely intelligent and very high functioning so he is in a regular class.. The school is pressuring me to put him on meds for his ADHD, but his psychiatrist won't do it because of the mood swings becoming worse and certain heart issues on his first EKG.. He has been on straterra before (the max dose for his weight) and it did not make a huge difference..(but that was before the mood meds and EKG)...

Thanks so much to both of you.. I am going to check out both diets, and the omega 3.. I am going to take things slow, because we have a great deal to sort though as far as our diet is concerned.. We also have a 2 year old and 6 year old that could really benefit from a better diet.. (not to mention Mom and Dad, lol)

First, the school cannot pressure you to put your son on any med. I think you should request, in writing, for an 1x1 aide, if he doesn't have it. This is what we did and that is the best thing that could have happened to my son. Second, you have to try options one at a time. FOr my son, b6/Magnesium works like a charm. I don't give him anymore but if I think he is distracted, I do add B6/Mg and I see him on track. He is also taking Omegas, have been taking this since he was 6 months old (even before the diagnosis, since my DHs side has real bad heart condition). So I cannot tell if this is a factor for him. You can also try DMAE (along with B vitamins) to see if that works for him. You should give atleast 3 weeks for every trial on medication. Like others we have tried the GFCF diet for 8 months and found very little difference, this could be due to the fact that his Igg tests came back with a 0 for all. But I did see some major difference with Houstan enzymes and Brainchild nutrition. Again, this has been a very long windy road. Welcome and hugs.
