I am up too. I'll open up the chat room and see if I can find you there.
I'm sorry Lainie. Could the doc adjust their med amount?
Hang in there

Thanks sweeties, I'm doing much better this morning.
Hey Lainie,
Liam melted last night too; I'm sure it was the fire after the stress of the tournament and the hectic weekend.
Has you pdoc ever metioned a mood stabilizer? I ask as risperdal funked out on LIam as did the geodon as while ago. We may have to go the route of a mood stabilizer. There are several to choose from and some are better than others; each child's response is different. Liam had little luck with trileptal, but I know Evelyn's David does well with it/ I am looking at something like depakote for now. Another option for you is clonodine, it's a bp med, but does well with toureets symptoms as well as mood issues and even adhd.

Hi Dee!
Can you tell me the difference between Abilify (anti-Psycotic ect) and a mood stabilizer?
Antipsychotics work differently from mood stabilzers. AP's typically take effect quite quickly (which is why I'm surprised the abilify would take 3 weeks, unless you are titrating up slowly, which I also understand. ) MS are often anti-seizure meds that they've discovered also have mood stabilizing effects. I still think rages that resond to ani-seizure meds are in a way a mini seizure anyway, hence the good resonse to the meds.
Trileptal is probably the most innocent of them in terms of side effects, but with Liam it did very little. Depakote and Tegretol are also common MS that are also anti-seizure meds. We may look at depakote as an option if Liam's moods don't level off soon.
Bear in mind MS can have some potential side effects (weight gain being just one). We have tried trileptal and lithium in the past, the former did nothing and the latter did stabilize him somewhat but it also drugged him up that he was in a fog.
Some spectrum kids need both an AP and a MS to get the desired effect. It is a bit of a roulette though, asone med is great for one child another needs something totally different. There is a book called The Bipoalr Child by the Papoloses (sp) and even though many of our kids aren't BP it's a great read for understanding medication for rages and mood issues in general. Another good book is Children in the syndrome mix (Iforget the exact title), but it discusses how tourettes, asd's, adhd and bp are all interconnecetd, a good read.
Hope I haven't bored you too much,
Dee
Sorry I'm chiming in late, Lainie-
Claire takes Tegretol and it really has been the only med that's worked for her.
Okay great info guys!
