Red Ribbon Week - Oh Fun!

This week is always good for a laugh or new memory. I don't think NT parents have quite the "enjoyment" out of Red Ribbon week as I do.
Last year, red ribbon week included my 9yo AS son yelling at homeless panhandlers outside the car about thier smoking. What it was doing to the environment, don't they know they are going to die, etc. etc. That was a REALLLLLY long red light, ROFL.
Hmmmmm, the year before I believe is the one where he insisted on sending my brother a letter because he "does drugs" (He smokes cigarettes but it is all the same to Mike).
When Mike was on meds I thanked GOD he never made the correlation between them and "drugs". I am always careful not to call the pharmacy the "drug Store". And if you read my post on Mike's 3 wonderful wishes you will see this is a very big deal to him.
The kid won't even take of the wine at mass because he isn't 21 and it is a drug. I won't even go into the theology behind it and how we explained it because to him there is no flexibility. It is hysterical. He usually even comments about other kids who take it. Or he just sits there with his really disgusted look like he just can't believe what they are doing.
They haven't even been in school yet this morning when we were dropping off Cait and saw that this was Red Ribbon Week. On the way home Emily asks something about how Elvis died (it was in a song) and Mike says "He died from a heart attack because he smoked. You shouldn't do drugs."
Oh Joy of Joys. Well at least the red ribbon propaganda has worked with Mike. I know he will never do drugs. HOwever he might get beat up by the teens in highschool that he tells off about it.
Here's to Red Ribbon Week! ROFL.

ROFL!
WTG Mikey! You tell 'em!
I wish we had something like that around here. As much for the entertainmant as the education.
What a laugh!

Oh Renee! I read this message yesterday morning, and wondered..."Will my kids experience Red Ribbon week?"
Well...last night we went to Friday's for dinner. We were celebrating Claire's "clear" MRI. As we're walking in the door, Emma says to me, "Mommy, is the kind of smoking and you and daddy do drugs? (Yes-shame on us, we're both still smoking.) Immediately I thought of your post, and laughed out loud. Then promptly explained why I was laughing to DH!
Later, as we were eating, Claire began to mimic a cartoon by banging her head into the window and then saying, "Ow! I hurt my head." We had explained to Noah what an MRI was, and he looked at us and said, "Wait a minute, I thought you said Claire's brain was okay? Now we have to stop celebrating."
I was laughing so hard at the ridiculous conversation, I had to leave the table.

And who says life isn't interesting.
ROFL, some great stories. I am still loving Paula's attempt at a surprise party

too funny!
way to go Mike! his heart is in the right place, even though his technique might need to be refined a bit!
betsy
Amy,
What a laugh! I loved that story. Life with *our* kids is rarely boring, that's fur sure.
Hey, congrats on Claire's MRI!!!! What great news! (and did I miss a post about it???)

No, you didn't miss the post...I just didn't want to feel like I was bragging because her MRI was normal. It seemed odd.
Interestingly, the doc did say that the MRI showed a severe case of sinusitis. Talk about an expensive way to get a sinus infection diagnosis! At least they didn't make us take her to the doctor to CONFIRM the sinus infection...evidently a brain image in enough to warrant antibiotics! ;-)

I had an MRI a few months ago. Exactly the same results. Clear brain, sinus infection.
Inerestingly, after the infection cleared, I never had another migraine attack (after a three-day attack and a two day attack within a week of each other).
ROFL. Thank goodness I have insurance!
