How's Mike doing?? Did you get a cast put on his hand?? You wrote about seeing an ortho doc, but I wasn't sure if you had done that yet.
Hope he's doing ok.

We got the cast last night. He wanted white so I could paint it like I did Cait's. Cait didn't have a choice of colors so I painted it so she wouldn't feel bad (3 years ago). Seems I have started a new family tradition.
Mike's is now red for Griffendor with lots of Harry potter stuff on it. LOL.
It is a bit sore tonight it seems. Or so he said to try to get some sympathy, lol. Otherwise the bone is fine. However, I found he may have lied to me so I would like to ring his neck. Grrrrrrr. I won't, but I can want to.

My boys love Harry Potter too!! We haven't seen the last movie yet though! I'm glad Mike is doing ok. I did read your post about the lying. I haven't had to deal with that yet with Nathan. He sometimes gets confused about what's lying and what's teasing!! But it's usually minor things. It is hard to tell though. It's almost like they really convince themselves to the point that they actually believe what they are telling you! And the fact that Nathan gets confused alot .......doesn't help! Then you don't know if they're lying, or confused, or just got the whole situation wrong!!
Ok, that didn't help, did it??? Sorry. I am glad that Mike's doing ok....and now he has a flashy cast to show off!!!

That is exactly it. I don't know what is a lie, what is confused, or what is just complete misunderstanding of the situation. Plus throw into that that when he is overstimulated often his brain just shuts down.
However, he insists beyond insisting that he was punched. He was not hit by a ball. Seems he was actually hit by the ball. How do you misunderstand that unless you have a break from reality for a bit?

Renee,
As our boys are not so far apart in age, I wonder if they are going through same step now. I now notice that Malcolm has started lying in a similar way, when he has done something that will get him in big trouble!!! Because I have been so used to believing him (and usually I still do), I now have to keep an eye out for when he really loses his temper and has a physical altercation with another kid ... because he will definitely lie to try to paint himself as the victim. This is relatively new. And I don't think he is confused at all, just trying to get out of being in trouble.
I've actually been a little excited by this, secretly, because it is a developmental step. There you go, excited by lying. He even tries to stick to the lie for awhile ... then in face of evidence, he gives it up. Then gets mad at the person who ratted him out to me. HA.
Rough stuff, right?

Sarah,
Cait went through the same thing around this age. In fact it was funny. The lie could be obviously blatantly a lie and she would stick to it. Caught red handed at something and would continue to lie straight faced. It was frustrating and yet kind of funny at the same time (Like the time she was chewing gum right there in front of her teacher continued to chew and yet swore up and down that she wasn't!)
Finally, I got tough on Cait. Told her I didn't respect lyers. If she lied I would never know what to believe of her. And she was also punished every time she was caught lying. I told her that the punishment for lying and doing something wrong where way way worse than lying and telling the truth because I respect someone who tells the truth. It worked (for her) after a while and once she was through that phase hasn't lied since (much)
Mike got the same lecture, lol.
I spoke to his therapist about it this am. She had some good ideas. First, Mike tends to check out alot into his own head and his own reality. It is possible that on a level he believes his story to be true because the regular world is so hard on him. However, she says I did the right thing for lecturing him and calling him on the lie because at some level he knows the truth way down there and needs those boundaries. And needs to know it is NOT ok to continuously revert to inside his head and away from the world. She kind of nailed it on the head again.
So there you have it. Heres hoping. I heard he got into another shouting match with kids at recess today but at least no one got hurt, nothing physical was involved and there is no new citizenship report.
