Renee,
Did you say Mike's bug phobia got worse after he started taking 5-HTP?
Hannah's been really freaking out about bugs since we got back from camp. She'll say a bug is on her or near her (I've actually not seen it myself), she'll panic, and then have a hard time getting over the feeling that a bug is on her even though its not on her anymore or never was to begin with. She never liked bugs but she never reacted like this before. Kyle is even been asking me what's wrong with her.
I was wondering if this might be a side effect from the 5-HTP. I'm glad we'll be seeing the NP next week so I can talk to her about it. How is Mike doing on it? I do think its helping her cope with her anxiety but honestly I wish it were better.
Thanks,
Samantha

Hi Samantha,
Sorry we were on vacation. Just got home.
He was taking 5HTP and GABA at the same time. I don't know if it was the GABA or the combination, but when I started them his bug phobia went through the roof. I took him off the GABA and it got better though he still is more nervous about them than he has been in a while, he hasn't had any panic attacks over them again.
Honest, I don't think the 5HTP is doing crap. Just got back from Disney and I have started giving him an ultra pure 100mg 5HTP and it didn't do a darn thing for his anxiety there.

Well, I find it very interesting that they are both on the same thing and having the same reaction to bugs. I'll let you know what the NP says next week. Like I said I do think its helping Hannah a little. When we are bike riding she'll fall or get scared. Before 5-HTP she'd be totally done and take a long time to get over it. But now she still panics, cries, ect but then she'll pull herself togeather and try again. So that's a plus. The real test of course is when school starts.
I'm sorry its not working for Mike. Does that mean disney didn't go so well? :( I hope you guys had a good time. I was wondering if that's where you were.
Hey, did you find the info on the hair test? If you need me to post it let me know.

Well, it appears everyone else had fun at least. I had fun about 1/2 the time. But the meltdowns, standing by exits holding everything while waiting with the anxiety man who wouldn't get on, missing a good number of rides, being screamed at, being hit, trying to play shepard mom and make sure everyone kept up with the group at all times, etc. really kinds of puts a damper on the fun.
The final straw was today. Most of the other times Mike freaked was over anxiety about a ride, but today it was because we said it was time to leave the lego shop. He decided to hit me when we got out side. NOT OK! So he has spent the rest of today (24 hours) with no electronics. Which means he has been following me all day attached like a leach and I am totally exhausted with no patience for the obsession conversations or his "helpfullness".
UGH.
However, after about 1/2 the first day he finally did start getting on some rides and then it started to be more fun. By the 2nd day he was in the routine and we even looked sometimes like those folks who don't need the disability pass so long as it was the rides he knew and in his routine.
