I got Cait's report card in the mail yesterday. I should be happy. She got all A's and B's and I would be if I actually thought she could do A and B level work.
Her A's I agree with. They are basically in spelling and her 2 special ed classes (social skills, and study skills) So long as behavior is good in those special ed classes that usually relates to an A.
One B- was actually a 79% (social studies). That was always a C in my book but the teacher made it a B-.
I am most upset with Math. At the end of the trimester they had a test (like a final). She couldn't even really get started. She was sent to do it in her special ed class. She had to have help remembering how to do the problems and it took 3 - THREE!!!! days in 2 class periods a day to finish a test she should have finished in one math period, maybe 2. And she STILL only got a C on it. She got a C on the district trimester test too. But got a B for the trimester because she turned her homework in on time (thanks to the support of an aide). So long as the homework was in they get full credit on it regardless of whether or not it is correct.
In Social Studies and Literature the last new grades entered were from the BEGINNING OF JANUARY!!!! Hello? Have they been in school for the last 2 months? What have they been doing? She literally had 2 project/test grades for social studies adn 5 homework grades for the ENTIRE trimester.
Her Language arts grades are mostly spelling tests and spelling homework. That is about it.
She was supposed to take district evaluations in ALL subject areas at the end of the trimester but I can't access those grades. They are so the district can make sure kids are on target with state standards. But what if thier parents want to know? I am furious about that too but no one seems to know. I only know the math one because it was part of thier trimester grade.
I am done ranting now, honest.

(((HUGS))) report cards don't ever tell the whole story! I hope you're able to get those other grades and that they actually say something about the work she's doing!

Renee,
Ya know, I don't worry so much about Tyler's work. I can always "ask" him and have actual conversations with him about it. But I'm starting to have that difficulty with Nathan now. Things coming home without any explainations on them!! Like I'm just supposed to KNOW!!! And I can't possibly ask Nathan...he doesn't have a clue! I didn't ask for a Spring conference for Nate...but that's because we had his IEP, so we kinda used that time to discuss his schoolwork. I had been getting math papers coming home, with "stars" on them or 100%....the kid DOESN'T KNOW HIS MATH!!! So WHO'S doing the math??? Well, I found out that Nathan was doing it....but with "blocks". He still needs his manipulatives to do math. I can only imagine how long it took him to finish the ENTIRE page of problems!! But he did!! I'm working with him at home right now. The flashcards are actually working. So I'm going to keep that up for him. He can't live off of those darn blocks forever!!!
I do have conferences for Tyler on Thurs.....I have a feeling it's not good.

Michelle....I know what you mean about the blocks....my son was relying on a number line to do all of his addition and subtraction until recently......I remember trying to get him to do a page of simple addition without the number line and he threw such a fit (screaming, ripping the paper, breaking his pencil, etc.). Can you imagine how big that number line would have to be for him to be able to add 3 or 4 digit sums together?....LOL!

Christie,
It's so bizarre...Nathan is a real quick learner. I wrote down the addition problems for the 2's the other day. He did them real fast, no problem. Tonight I did the 3's (we haven't even gone over the 3's yet). He did them real fast, no problem. He has apparently remembered the "touch math" system. He's still a bit fuzzy on the larger numbers, because I wrote down 7+9...and he had to look at his sheet that had the touch dots for the numbers. I'm going to try the 4 and 5's this week and see how those go....
