"Extraocular circadian phototransduction in humans, (Science 279, 396-399) showed that light absorbed by the popliteal regiion (behind the knee) can also reset the body's circadian rhythm. The photoreceptor for the popliteal effect is presumably present in the blood and may be a porphyrian-based compound."
