Saw Curious George too!!!

We took the boys to see "Curious George" yesterday! Nathan really liked it. There was a few moments after the opening of the movie, where he became a bit restless though. It opened up showing George, and then switched over to the city where Ted (the man in the yellow suit) was. Too boring, too much talking, no George.......then as soon as George popped back on screen, Nathan was happy again!!!

Usually, Nathan sits real still, eating his popcorn. But this time he spent alot of time moving around in his chair, and even sitting on the edge of his chair. His stimming also surfaced during the movie, and this doesn't happen with Nathan...he's usually caught up in the movie and a bit spacey.

Dh took us out to dinner too. It was a noisy restaurant, so Nathan was AGAIN....real stimmy. He even plugged his ears at one point. And this is something Nathan doesn't do...he usually just tolerates the noise, or acts out.

Michelle,

That reminds me of taking Malcolm to see first "Spiderman" movie. I can't now remember if he was 4 or 5 years old at the time. Went to a packed show in Harlem, jammed packed, all the kids were so politely quiet sitting with their parents. Malcolm had a little thing about Spiderman back then, lunchbox, T-shirts. He was excited to see the movie.

He wasn't scared or even overstimulated at all, but if you remember the movie, Peter Parker doesn't "turn into" Spiderman for a long time. So, as the movie went along, he started to lean over and whisper to me, "Mommy, where is Spiderman?" I whipered back that that boy was going to become Spiderman, watch for the spider to bite him, etc. And, louder, he whispered back "When?" "Soon." He waited awhile longer, then even louder whisper "MOMMY, when is Spiderman coming??"

People started to chuckle around me a little. This kept up, although really, for the most part he did well and also kept it to a whisper, so not too disruptive. I was a little on edge of seat, wondering if we would be OK with how long the talking in a movie can go, not really knowing how long til Spiderman showed up, you know...

Anyways, when Peter Parker dressed up in home-made spider outfit and went to enter the prizefight, Malcolm sat bolt upright in his seat and said, quite loudly and full-voiced, "OH, Mommy, THERE is Spiderman! THERE he is! HOORAY!!"

We got a huge roll of laughter from the entire theatre, and Malcolm really enjoyed the rest of the movie! (Back then suspence didn't bother him, and he LOVES action in movies. Sorta like he loves roller coasters.)

Still makes me laugh to remember it...

Tina,

They did show a preview of a cartoon movie...I think it was called Barnyard. It's about a bunch of cows that go to the city. It looked really funny! There's also a movie about a bear that's a pet, and is talked into leaving the house and entering the woods...where bears really belong!! I can't remember the name of that movie. And, of course, Ice Age 2 is coming soon!!! And there's another movie about zoo animals that venture out to the city (reminded me of madagascar!).

There is a movie starting tomorrow though. It's a cartoon movie too. I can't remember the name of it!!! But check your listings, it should be there.

There are 2 movies for the older kids. "Hoot"...it's about 2 boys and 1 girl who want to save some owls that are extinct. And "AquaMarine"...this is about 2 bestfriends (girls)who come across a mermaid..willing to grant them a wish if they help her fall in love.

Sorry...I'm not good at remembering all the names of the movies!!!

Sara,

We went to see Spiderman too at the theatre. But Nathan didn't say anything..he was just a bit restless. But when we went to see "The Hulk" .....both of the boys were soooo anxious for the hulk to make his appearance!!!! I was even getting a bit disturbed that it took an hour and a half before we saw him!!! And YES I still remember how long it took for The Hulk to show his face!!! How can they expect people to WAIT that long!!!

Just as a bit of Curious George trivia...I was listening to some show on NPR, and they were interviewing Margaret Rey, who worked on some of the original books with her husband "H.A." Apparently, before the first story was published, Margaret and H.A. had to put the manuscript in a bicycle basket to flee Nazi Germany...ON BIKE. Can you imagine? We're lucky we've got those stories at all. Oh, and George's name was originally going to be "Fifi", but the American publishers didn't thing that sounded like a good name for a boy monkey.

I like those stories, even the new ones. The old ones are kind of quaint, in a funny way, but I like stuff like that. Also, nowadays it would be so un-PC to have a story about a guy who yanks a monkey out of his jungle home to bring him to the big city and let him smoke a pipe! LOL! Can't say anything about the movie, though, since I haven't seen it.

Thanks for that trivia tidbit! I LOVE Curious George, so I was SOoooo excited when I first heard they were doing a movie. We are hoping to go see it this weekend. For years, we always wondered why the Man with the Yellow Hat never had a name, and yet George knew everyone else's name (Doc Baker, his friend Betsy, etc.). Did they give him the name Ted for the movie, or is there some old CG book out there that identifies him as Ted?
