School Meeting today!
| Wed, 10-10-2007 - 9:34pm |
So we had the meeting of the minds at Nick's school today to get the ball rolling with his evals. I was pretty pleased with how it all went. It was dh and I, the school psychologist, the SLP, Nick's teacher, principal and the district special ed director, who actually a few years ago taught a class of kids with AS. The SLP was awesome and from what I have heard through the grapevine really advocates with parents to get the services for kids. They went through the eval planning form and are going to do about 17 different assessments including everything from academic performance, to OT to sensory, classroom observation, PT, Speech, cognitive, etc. Now the good thing is we already have Nick's dx from his doctor at Children's so all of that will be included in their asessment. The SLP will do classroom observation and work on social stories for him. We were also referred yesterday at his drs. appointment for an OT/PT/speech eval at Childrens hospital so we have that in the works for November. The school will start his evals in the next 2 weeks hopefully, the quicker we can get this IEP in place, the better. His teacher looks weary having to deal with him and she is plain out of ideas. They also mentioned an intervention specialist, a term we have never heard before. I am not sure if that is their term for a 1:1 aide? We didn't ask, but will be following up on that one. Keep you fingers crossed that (for once) he exhibits typical aspie behavior on eval days! Its not like I want him to misbehave, but I truly want them to see how Nick is and the frustration level in the classroom on both parts.
