School's over

The kids had their last day of school last Friday. I am very proud of both of my kids. Everett did a little better in the last marking period as compared to the rest of year. He graduated to the 7th grade. I am amazed at how much he did learn since I don't believe the teacher he had knew how to teach to anyone. He pretty well on the standarized tests. For the NY state tests he ranked 2 points below average, not bad in my book. In Iowa Standarized tests he ranked in the 61st percentile, meaning he did better than 61% of 6th grade students in the nation.
I really feel that we have hit the turning point for Everett and expect him to do even better next school year. Next school year he will have the same tutor and counselor plus he is attending a summer school/camp that his tutor runs for three weeks in July/August. It is very expensive but definately worth it, I wish the DOE could pay for it but his IEP is a 10-month IEP not a 12-month IEP.
I was so surprised that I even got the results with the report card. I have never gotten it like that before, I always had to ask.

DD, Anita, did excellent. She is my other little genius. She got straight A's the entire school year. For the Iowa tests she rank in the 94th percentile meaning she did better than 94% of second graders in the nation.

They both have to do three book reports and memorized a poem over the summer. Anita that will be easy as she is my book worm. Everett will be more like pulling teeth. I am giving them both this week off. Then the next week Everett is going to have to start a book. Anita I am not worried about as she will probably finish the book in a day. She may have only just finished second grade but she reads closer to a fourth grade level.

I am one proud Mother.
