seizures?

I've been wondering in the far back of my mind if Kyle's meltdowns at school could be seizure related at all. Now we haven't seen anything at home that would make us think he was having seizures. But at school, especially last week, they seem to think the behavior/meltdown came out of no where. And maybe I'm being paranoid because of trying GABA which some say can decrease the seizure threshold. I've also heard low GABA can cause seizures which confuses me. But the past 3 days Kyle has said on several occasions, "do you smell smoke?". I don't and no one else in the house does either. I'm usually pretty sensitve to smells. I've read that smelling odors no one else does can indicate seizures. I made him an appt for a check up on Monday. Should I bring it up? Anyone know how much an EEG costs? I think we'd be paying out of pocket. Yikes.

PS I forgot to say he seems to be doing really well on the GABA. He's only had one day of school since starting it so its hard to say as far as school goes. But his one day back was good. When he got home he was excited to tell his sister about a web site SHE might like. (wow He usually ignores her) The later in the evening he played with her and I heard him say to her, "this game is fun". They were pretending she was a cow I think. For him to let her pretend and not be bothered was pretty big in my book. I hope that keeps up. And I hope I'm way wrong about any seizures.

I emailed ds's teacher. I told her the symptoms of some different types of seizures and told her about Kyle saying he smells smoke. I asked her to tell me if she's seen any of the symptoms. She said Kyle has told them he smells smoke a few times typically on the verge of a melt down. She also said "Diminished awareness, repetitive acts and semi-random speech fit." I think I'll definately ask the doctor about it.
On a good note, today was another good day. That makes two in a row!

Samantha,
Unfortunately the smell thing sounds like it could be seizure-esque (originating in the occipital lobe, I think).

The kids are on a state funded insurance program right now. Joe & I don't have any coverage. Its a really crappy HMO. There aren't even any peds on the list in our county. I refuse to take the kids to the crappy doctors on the list. They are truely incomptent. We went to one when we first signed up. She was testing Kyle's reflexes which were non-existent. I asked her what that meant. She said she didn't know but its on the paper so she just does it. I'd rather pay out of pocket.
