Semi-OT - Teacher gifts

Josh has 3 primary teachers - 2 female and 1 male. For the 2 female I've gotten white peppermint scented candle jars.

I have NO idea what to get his male teacher (and Josh isn't any help). Any suggestions? $5 is about all I can spend.

A gift certificate for lunch is always nice. Or to a Teacher's store.

Gift card to local book store or local video store toss in a bag of microwave popcorn and a box of candy and you have a movie night.

That's part of the problem - we live in nowhere-ville. I don't know if he lives here in town OR in one of the larger towns nearby (where the book/video stores are) - one is 15 miles one way, one is 20 miles the other. And of course, there are different offerings at both.

Lunch wise - we have McD's or Subway to offer in town, and the teachers usually stay at school anyway.

Thought about a coffee mug and small pack of gourmet coffee, but I don't know if he's a coffee drinker (tho I'm thinking he had a cup o' something at conferences).

Josh has never had a male teacher before. This is new and odd for me. Scented candles are easy and generally well accepted by the femmes. :)

I can't speak for every man... but my hubby *loves* scented candles. I'd just go ahead and try and find him a nice 'macho' scent. My husband loves anything with a *very* strong scent that isn't flowery. Maybe a 'food' scent... lol. Those are always good.

You know, I debated about that. The ones I got for his other teachers are white in color and are peppermint scented - they smell just like a candy cane. BF said "No way" but couldn't offer any other suggestions.

Like I said, my normal gift is either candles or a plate of homemade goodies. I don't have time to bake this year or I'd go that route for him :)

cookies.

For christmas I usually bake cookies then each teacher gets a small baggie of cookies dressed up with ribbon. For the really special teachers (Mikes Sped teacher and aide - they deserve it) get something in addition.

This year I don't have alot of time or money but all girl teachers. However between my 2 ASD kids and 2 typicals we have 10 teachers and aides I have to give to and that doesn't count any specialists (OT, Speech, MT). This year they are getting either a christmas pin or ornament and a few wrapped almond rocha candies. Mike's 2 teachers are getting a chrismas mug as well (Ross had them for $3, but I saw some after at Big Lots for $1). I may get them a $5 gift card to Panera.

I am only baking for family this year and I have to bring a plate to Mikes teacher since she put her lights on just for me. It is an old joke between us and now I have to bring cookies!

Just read through the rest of the thread, lol. How about a little can of almond rocha or some sort of specialty christmas treat. It is inexpensive and well accepted by guys in general. Did you mention a starbucks nearby? They have some nice little baggies of goodies I saw yesterday when I was in there.

My son's primary teacher is male and his ST's have always been male too.

Things I have given include: gift certificates as mentioned by others, ornaments, picture frames, baked goodies. This year I happened to have a cute class photo taken at a class party so I made it into a mouse pad. It cost about $15, so that may be more than you might want to spend.

I have also gone the home made artsy craftsy route: home made popsicle stick ornament decorated by DS, magnets made from foam that you cut out made by DS.

This year for the therapists I also gave them "cookies in a jar" where you put the dry ingredients for a recipe, like choc chip cookies in layers in the jar (flour, sugar, choc chips) and it kind of looks like sand art. Then you include the recipe and dress it up with a pretty bow. This is a real bargain bc you can buy one bag of flour, etc. and get several nice gifts out of it.

Plus, just a really nice personal letter I think means a lot to these folks too. They really do give so much to our kids.

I got lucky at daycare - One of the girls there had Mr D last year and says he adores Sudoku puzzles and Jolly Rancher hard candies - so, looks like I'm hitting Meijer tomorrow on my lunch hour for a puzzle book, pen and hard candy :)
