I had posted a little while ago about my youngest dd, Lily. She had yet to ask a "why?" question, or for that matter, any "wh" question. Well, this morning, while we were brushing her teeth, she saw something pink on the side of the sink (some dried-up toothpaste. She said "What that?" I was so excited that she finally asked a question! I just thought I would share some positive news.

That's so great! With my son, who just started with questions a couple of months ago (he's 4), once he "got it" he started asking q's all the time. It was like the flood gates opened!

I am happy for you both!

It's great to have a place where people truly understand rejoicing over what others might consider "small" accomplishments. With my first daugther, I took for granted that babies sit up, crawl, walk, talk, etc. when they're supposed to. We had to wait much longer than normal for Lily's milestones, but the wait was sooo worth it. As far as the hair shaft defects go, Lily has two of them. One is called "pili-torti". It causes her hair to break off and rub off. The second one is called spun glass hair. Basically, it makes it difficult for her hair to lay down. It also has made her hair very white blonde with a spangled appearance. Her hair is trying to grow, but the places that receive the most friction (the back and sides of her head), still rub off easily. The hair on her crown is finally a couple of inches long, but it doesn't want to lay down. In a way, I guess the fact that she has so little hair has been a blessing in disguise. Because she looks so much younger than she is, we don't get any funny looks from behavior that normally wouldn't be "socially acceptable" for other 3.5 yr olds. Also, even though she just started combining words and walking just about 6 months ago, many people think she talks and walks quite well for her age. I have to smile to myself when people say "Oh, she is talking so well for her age!". If anyone wants to learn more about Lily and see a picture so you can better understand her hair shaft defects, her website address is: www.caringbridge.org/tx/lily Again, I'm glad to have found this board where people truly understand.

Amy,

That is fantastic! I am glad for you. That is wonderful.

And your girls are gorgeous! Your older daugther's note on the website was impressive. She sounds like quite the young lady.

Congrats Amy! We are celebrating our first "WHY" question today too. For the first time Jake asked me why airplanes fly but people don't. I almost burst into tears so I totally understand the joy you feel!
