I had a meeting with Cait's teacher yesterday and I think we have had a breakthrough!!!!!! She is FINALLY Getting it!!!!!
The subject was once again...homework. Cait's organizational skills are non-existant. They are WAY past poor to incorrigibly horrific. Well the mainstream Lang Arts/soc studies teacher makes some kind of comment about making Cait responsible for turning in her work AND the teacher says it is not possible for Cait to be responsible for it. She is not near having that kind of independent ability. That she needs supports and modifications and lots of monitoring for her to be successful. YIPEE! WHOOOHOOO!!!!! I can live with one more year of this now.
AND on the good side I got glowing reports of how she is doing in school. The LA teacher said she is a dear to have in class. She is attentive, tries her best, participates, etc. Yup, proud mama moment! Oh and she has a gang of friends she has been hanging out with and finally this time it seems like nice kids. No freinds calling home yet, no hanging out with kids outside of school, but it is a start!
We are starting a contract for next week for homework. If that doesn't work I am going to make them modify and ditch the dang useless spelling homework. The kid spells better than I do, she doesn't need 20-30 minutes of spelling a night when she can't finish the other work.
Well that is the good news. The not so good news is separate.

Funny heading, Renee.
Duh, of course she can be taught. How does anyone think she got as far as she did?
But then, sometimes it takes TEACHERS a very long time to learn.
Sigh.

Wonderful to hear, Renee! It's always nice to know that the teacher FINALLY gets it! Let's hope she continues to pass her wisdom on to the "next generation". LOL
