This is a shock!

I got Mike's triennial psych report in today and I am actually Impressed! I don't think I have any problems with any of it, am not going to ask for additional testing and I think she did a good job.

Only one other time has this even come close to happening and I think I made the poor woman do a ton of tests. I think perhaps this psychologist has heard of my reputation? It is 10 pages plus the scores on a separate page.

Basically Mike is a really smart kid who has auditory problems, social and behavioral problems. He works very slowly which affected some areas of his test quite significantly. Hard to tell if it is his perfectionism that has him working that slowly or something else. He still qualifies under autism and his current placement is appropriate. Didn't do any autism rating scales because there was no question on whether or not he is on the spectrum (I was fine with that. Not in the mood to see moderate/severe or anything so just going with he is ASD) so she just went off observations and the state criteria. Then she gave a bunch of recomendations including things like a social skills group, etc. However, it was very very detailed.

His IQ subtests were all over the place from 139 to a 64, his broad range IQ was 115 but it is hard to score those when a kid has that much variability. One auditory eval (TAPS) was the same. 2 clusters just in the average range (105, 97) and one cluster below average at a 78 (auditory comprehension/reasoning).

His Adaptive Behavior Scale is a mess. That is the one I filled out so I feel bad. It is one of those where you have to chose yes or no. Often I wanted to say "maybe or sometimes", lol. However, the areas it rated him low are accurate. Just don't like looking at it. Mostly self-stims, socialization, etc. Those areas were 1%ile. He did above average in personal Self sufficiency!

Now have to get the audiologist eval and the OT eval finished. Then gotta fight the good fight for Music Therapy. I am anxious to hear if his auditory problems are true auditory problems or autistic language processing problems. If it could be fixed with some hearing support wouldn't that be nice.

OHHHHH and the diagnostic center people still have to come and give me thier 10000 page report.

Wow! What a great moment! Congrats on your formidable reputation and/or finally getting a decent person to work with! Enjoy.

NO kidding HUH!

Seriously, I read the darn thing cover to cover 3 times and nothing. I got nothing!

Oh and it gets better. I spoke to my fave district specialist today. They are going to have the music therapist consult to Mike's class and are considering approving a MT based social skills group to be done in his class.

Still trying to figure out the auditory piece. That is way confusing but he does have an appointment with an audiologist in a few weeks. I hope we can do more for him for that then we currently are.

Renee,
You need to get yourself an assistant for a Christmas present. Glad to hear someone took the time to take a closer look at Mike's issues. I'm interested to hear the results of the audio eval. Keep us posted!

Hmmmmm, personal assistant. There's an idea!

I was just complaining to my mom. As if I hadn't committed enough I just commited to another day of work AND extra volunteering in Emily's class. Appears I will be counting laps on Wednesdays as well as correcting homework at home, which is what I am SUPPOSED to be doing right now. Gotta prep myself with some coffee first.

My mom tried to get me to practice the word "no". Gotta work on that. Ugh.
