Hi again well as you know I have had some worries about my son who is now 1, he dosen't clap, wave, point, or really seem to copy stuff however in all other ways appears to be developing normally, he interacts, smiles laughs rolls balls kisses etc, he dosen't spin or line things up, plays with toys for an appropriate time etc anyway I mentioned it to my health visitor she came today and went trough the assessment, she said she thinks he is ok, but will see him again in six months but I still have this niggle, when I see him with other kids his age!!!!!!!! anyway think I'll hang around here a keep you all posted I guess until 18 months there is not much to do, he has no gross motor or fine motor delays and I haven't seen any sensory issues, wwyd just observe wait and see or insist on a referal to developmental ped. thanks for all your help

sounds just like my DD at 1. I had her evalulated at 1 - for not pointing or clapping - no words, just did not seem to ' get it '. They thought she was fine - had her re-evaled at 18 months , then again at 20 months - when she qualified for a language delay (she was now pointing, clapping, labeling, etc, but still so different from other kids.
We finally saw a dev. ped ( had to wait YEAR for that appt) who dx'd her with a language delay. She has come a LONG way in a year - but is still so different from other kids her age - still does not really understand all we say and is not able to follow direction. But, it's a delay - thats all, so.......I'd say with it out, take notes and have him re-evaled at 18 months.
I have a 4 y/o DD who is very 'normal' bordering on advanced - so this was a shock to us - but she is awesome just the same and I would actually not change her at all.
good luck'
btw - I'd get an appt with a dev ped - you will probably have to wait quite a while - BUT, you can cancel the appt if need be, but at least if things get worse or stay the same - you will have some direction - ya know?
sorry for being so short - my DD is on my lap wanting to play cookie monster on the computer - she definetly does NOT get the phrase " in a minute " - lol
your son sounds a lot like my DD did at 1 - you can email me if you want at gillotti@cox.net so we can chat more -
