I have a few questions about kinds of placements that are available in other school districts.

If your child attends a specialized classroom what criteria has been used to justify the placement?

Graham is fully mainstreamed in a gen ed district classroom but has an aide to help out when he freaks or flakes out . We have no idea what his placement in middle school is going to look like, but we're writing it as if he has an aide again. The team is making the case that it needs to be this way since he is SO disruptive otherwise that it would impact classroom discipline and other students. HTH

"And they are trying to tell me that he is making good academic progress so that means that he is receiving FAPE."

Heather they are so wrong with this statement. Here is what IDEA says about FAPE and academic success.

http://idea.ed.gov/explore/view/p/,root,regs,300,B,300%252E101,

Sec. 300.101 Free appropriate public education (FAPE). Read Part C.

(c) Children advancing from grade to grade. (1) Each State must ensure that FAPE is available to any individual child with a disability who needs special education and related services, even though the child has not failed or been retained in a course or grade, and is advancing from grade to grade.

Stick that in a letter and tell them to sit on it (HaHa just kidding about the sit on it lol) but really I hate hearing this. Chris has some executive functioning problems and they tried to use the grade card and I said "Services are for needs, not grades."
