Oh man, you'd think I'd get it by now (insert eye roll here). Cian's bus has been arriving between 10:35 and 10:45, and most mornings we are hanging out on the porch, waiting. Well, this morning the frigin' bus arrived before 10:30; Cian was still watching Nggin, no shoes on and NO transition time. Bus arrives, and I am literally carrying a screaming, kicking, slapping 4 year old, shoes in my hand and somewho finding the third limb to also carry back pack. Cian had a HUUUUUGE meltdown, climbed under the bus seat, screaming. I was about to take him off and drive him, but the drivers insisted they needed to deal with it, otherwise he's know he could melt down to get a ride to school. I sort of half heartedly agreed. I don't think that was Cian's agenda today, but he might use it in the future. So he no doubt kicked an screamed all the way. I left a message for his teacher, so she wouldn't be ambushed...sigh.

Dee darlin'.
This bus driver needs to give you an exact time before which you are not responsible to be outside or ready! If they say 10:30 and then you are waiting 'til 10:45, well, OK, but you should not be expected to bring out your child earlier than 10:30 just because they show up early. No way. I had it out with a few bus drivers in my day who thought they could just show up early and then drive off after a minute or so, I called supervisors. We have to have some continuity.
And then there were the bad traffic days when buses were up to 45 minutes late and therefore noone got to school on time, understanding that our bus rides are usually very far away with many kids to begin with... Or when the buses broke down somewhere and they had to wait for another bus to be sent out from Queens to bring them all home HOURS later. Fortunately Malcolm always had pals on the bus, also packed his tunes. Some matrons actually gave me their cel phones and even called if early or late to stay in touch, they rocked!!
We sure love not having to wake up early here or deal with buses, one nice by-product of homeschooling!

Ta Sara,
Yup, we shall be waiting tomorrow at 10;25, (not worth the melt down here). I will make the am driver commit to a time as this 20 min gap is killing us. Thing is he's kind of doing us a favor anyway as he's not supposed to pick up from thr door, and we need to get to the top of the court. They really are lovely people, (driver and assistant), we just need to get the pick up time in check.
It really was all me this am, I need to get Cian ready from 10:20 am on,

We are having a similar bus issue here. Ya know if they are there consistently at one time and you have a routine then I would just go out and tell them "You are 10 minutes early today and we are not quite ready. We have a choice, I can either rush him out here now and have a meltdown or you can wait a few mintues while I take him through his typical routine. I would rather do that but I didn't want you to just wait out here or leave." See what they say. You gave them the choice and hopefully they won't choose to cause a meltdown in a child cause they are tooo impatient.
If they are impatient and gave you a hard time over that I would call everyone in the world and tell them "I have a child with autism. this is the time I am told. We need to have a routine or he will have a meltdown so you need to be consistent when you get here"
Mike has a near meltdown this AM because his bus was late. Last week he completely missed the bus one day due to a screw up by them (disagreement whether they went to the wrong house or were just completely not here at the right time). Prior to that the bus was anywhere from 5 minutes early up to 25 minutes late. The next 2 school days after the miss (including yesterday) they were early. Today it was late. As soon as 7:30 happened (actually pick up) he started to meltdown thinking they missed him again. He was screaming, the works. Ya know, pick a time and go with it.
Then on the other hand, Cait has been late EVERY FRIGGEN SCHOOL DAY THIS YEAR! It is really pissing me off big time. Dang busses.
ARGHHH BUSSES!
