I kind of have that with Jacob. ALthough he is only 2, sometimes when I rock him and I lay him in his crib something clicks and he jumps up screaming for me. DRIVES ME NUTS!!!
In fact, he did that last night and I had to rock him all over again. ANd he was up bright and early at 4 am screaming for me again. Sometimes, I have noticed, while I am rocking Jacob his whole body jerks and startles him. I wonder if this has something to do with his night wakings? Anyhow, I feel your pain!

Vaughn does something similar......I read to him every night (started this when he was 18 months and it has become part of our bedtime routine.....so God forbid I stop).....he gets really drowsy and falls asleep or is near sleep when I finish reading. I leave the room and almost every night (about 10 or 15 minutes later) he will jump out of bed and barrel downstairs like it is morning......it might be some type of sleep walking.....I tell him it is the middle of the night and tuck him back in and he is sound asleep in a matter of seconds. I say it might be his version of sleep walking because once I heard him getting out of bed and I happened to be right outside his door....so I open the door just as he was reaching for the handle and he screamed and had the most terrified look on his face.....it really freaked him out....I'll never forget that face.....poor guy.
I talked to his music therapist (she is the one monitoring his Listening Program).....beause this issue has been happening more often since he started the program.....she said it may be his brain jumping into different modes preparing for sleep.....most people's brains do this gradually but his might be "jumping" into modes and this wakes him......don't know if that helps at all.....but we have something similar here.....kinda.....

Evelyn,
It sounds to me like seizures should be ruled out. The wake-sleep and sleep-wake transitions are known "danger zones" for seizure activity.
