PANDAS does come from strep but it is more a chronic thing that mimics OCD like behavior. It basically (from my understanding) is a strep infection gone wild and presents itself in behaviors which are very OCD like. Basically after a strep infection seems to have gone away or in one you never noticed, it lays dormant and causes these problems. So some kids who are ASD or OCD, etc and have had strep infections untreated or many strep infections should look into this.
If she is already a PANDAS kid you may see an increase in those behaviors during an infection but if she is already on antibiotics I don't think you should, unless the sugar and dye and increase in yeast from the antibiotic cause an increase in symptoms which they can.
I could be completely off on all this though. I am just going from old memory.
Hi there, Renee explained it the way I understand it too. If she is being treated for strep, as long as you get rid of it with meds I think she should be fine.
With Eric it was like Renee said. He had what we thought was a viral type infection. He was extremely sick, dehydrated, high fever. I think they even checked for strep but it came out negative at the time. A few months later he developed some severe OCD stuff. They did another strep test and he had it, but no symptoms except the OCD stuff.
Now, in our case there were/are other things going on too, but the first step was to get rid of the strep.
I'll look for the link later today. But I think if you know it is strep and are treating, just make sure you "get it" all and she should be fine. Might be worth having her tested again later when she feels ok, just to make sure.
I am sorry she is sick. I hope you are feeling ok too.
Paula, here is the PANDAS link. But I'm afraid it might scare you though. I had forgotten about the recurring tendancy part. Maybe wishful thinking on my part!
Actually I wanted the info so I could watch Peter more closely, although I will watch Siobhan too, of course.
Siobhan is even more miserable today. We went back to the Dr, who now thinks that Siobhan may have a tummy bug and a sinus infection on top of strep. She tested negative for Flu.

Sorry about the link, the last part is htm.
For some reason I can't just click and copy it. It's at the National Institute of Mental Health website if you can't get the link to work.
Sorry I'm not such a great typist!
Thanks all!

We'll have to wait it out, I guess,.
