This is a bit off topic but I need some advice about my 15month old. I took her for her 15month check-up yesterday and told my doc a couple of issues I was concerned about. Ella was diagnosed at 2months with torticollis(turned her head the same left direction all the time). As she grew I realised she clenched her left fist alot but could use it but not as well as her right hand. When she would lift her arms over her head the right was always higher than left. The doctor then felt that she didn't have torticollis but instead had erb's palsey but couldn't be sure because she didn't see her at birth. Well Ella has been getting PT for a year now and has made great progress. She has begun to walk but now walks off to the left side. My doc thinks it's possible she may have had a stroke in utero!!!! I'm not so sure because my son Jake was suspected for Erbs Palsey but didn't have it, with him I think the doc noticed strange motor issues that later made sense with his diagnosis of PDD-NOS. I'm wondering if this is the same with Ella. She has OT for sensory issues and although she's still young and has alot of words many of her words are very unclear. Anyone have a similar experience?

Teresa,

(((hugs))) sweetie. That must have been horible to hear. Have they suggested a neurologist, EEG, MRI, MRA or CAT scan? I imagine if she did have some kind of stroke in utero, it would show up on an MRI.

It is common for PDD kids to have soem motor issues, but I would push for the diagnostic tests, Regardless of the problem, (PDD or otherwise) it is best to identify it and start appropriate therapy as early as possible

Hi Teresa,

No, not with my kids, but with my cousin's.

Her DD was weaker on one side.... not very noticeable except to the mom. Met milestones late. She did see a ped. neuro who confirmed that she had had a minor stroke in utero. She gets PT and will be just fine in time.

HTH,
Cathy
