Stuff from the "beginning" of it all...

Sorry that I’ve been MIA for a few days. I probably won’t be able to be as active as other members on the board. I work part-time, three half days a week, & this is usually the time when I have to check the board. : )

Just reading some of the posts has been helpful to me.

DH & I went to an Autism support group a week ago. It was helpful.

I learned how we can possibly roll DS’s PCA hours over into a $900-some monthly grant. I learned what the grant can be used for, including a fence to prevent DS from running into the street. This, I was elated to hear! DH thought I made it look like I only wanted the fence for the fence. I suppose in some respects, that’s true. But, I want the fence BECAUSE of DS, to accommodate him, so that he won’t run out into the street. I just thought it might be nice to possibly use some grant money for this.

I also met a woman who’s husband has Autism. I can’t tell you how encouraging this was for me. The first thoughts that ran thru my head when DS was diagnosed were: He’s never going to leave home. He’s never going to get married. He’s never going to have children. I was just so happy to know that’s not necessarily true.

Yesterday, our family went on a walk/bike ride around our neighborhood, as we often do. Gavin (DS) rode his bike with training wheels. Perhaps no big deal to the average onlooker. But, if they only knew how he could barely manage the pedals, let alone the steering, just a few short weeks ago, they might understand how I see this as such a victory. It’s times like this that I relish.

Thanks, everyone!

I'm not a super poster either, but I visit the board every day.
