Okay, I told you all about a horrible IEP I had a few weeks ago. I didn't sign any papers (they denied us an IEP) and we go back to the table Thurs Morn.
THANK GOD I found a Parents Advocasy Group (a big one) an hour away. This place has 5 agency's in Cali and one in ever state btw. And best of all, they are FREE!
They are called Exceptional Parents Unlimited.
Well this morning I took my doc report, and I took the IEP and got alot of help from them. They showed me were Chris at least is qualified for a 504 to get my foot in the door while I await for another Individual Private Evaluation from someone else outside. She also told me I can write up a letter to ask for re-embursement for the evaluation I got in the first place. Another THANK GOD over here as it cost us 2800 out of pocket.
Someone also is going to this meeting with me, and I already called the Director of Special Ed, and told her I was going to record the meeting.
Anyway, they also said I should write down my priorities of what I want for Chris next year. I do know that I am insisting that they move him back to his old school (they have better services such as a resource room and all).
What else would you guys ask for a 11 yr old boy with strong ASD traits and with a Written Disorder in the 70's and a very slow Visual Processing Disorder.
He hasn't been to school period in about 2 months (I have been sarb'd) and is taking risperadal and prozac for his rages and OCD. Things went to the bottom of the barrel for him in school and I need to know where to start and where to go. I used to think things were so bad I was going to ask for a special day class, but the more I think about it, if they get him a great teacher, give him at least a part time aid or let him go to resource when he is breaking down or having trouble then he might be okay in mainstream. But again, I have no idea.
Any Ideas? What did you ask the school for? I don't even know where to begin....
Thanks guys :),

Wow! I can't believe how difficult they are making things for you and your son. I often get frustrated with the process at our school system here in Ohio, but now I think I should be counting my blessinigs.
I definently think an aide would help your son quite a bit. My son has had an aide since 2nd grade (now going into 7th) and it has helped him immensly. The same aide followed him through each grade which allowed my son to grow a strong bond with her. Since she knew him so well, she had an excellent grasp of his abilities and social needs. Unfortunately, they gave us a new aide for the last part of this school year this year because they felt they needed to start getting him ready for Junior High (His old aide didn't want to go on to the JH.)
Anyway, if anything I would advocate for the aide.
