Surprise! No school today!

This morning, when David was getting ready for school, he just stood there, not putting on his clothes. When he's afraid of being disappointed, he gets real shy about asking questions or asking for what he wants. He very quietly said, "What's today?" I said it was Friday, and he seemed real disappointed. He kept saying he couldn't get dressed, because school is boring.

Eventually he got dressed, but he was really bummed out about having to go to school, and at each step of the getting-ready process, he kind of stood there, like he couldn't bring himself to do it. He didn't want anything in his lunch, so it took a while to figure out what to pack. Finally, when we were getting ready to walk out the door, he said, "What if we got to school and found that none of the kids were there, none of the teachers were there, and none of the substitute teachers were there?" That reminded me of one time in kindergarten when we got to school and found out it was a holiday! So, just on a whim, I looked at the school calendar. Today IS a day off! It's the trimester break! I had *no* idea! Actually, I was aware of it about a month ago, but completely forgot. They post this stuff on a big board outside the school, so I really have no excuse! I think his teacher must have told the kids there's no school tomorrow, but that conflicted with what *I* was saying. That explains David's behavior. An NT kid would have just said, "Uh, Mom, there's no school today. Duh!"

So, it's a "day off". Basically what that means is that while DH is away at work ALL DAY LONG, I get to manage both kids and their interactions. Whee!! Just like summertime! So nice to get a break, eh? LOL!

Evelyn,

I was just on my way out, when I saw your post! We have an early release day today. The boys were only at school for about 3hrs!! I'm on my way to pick them up.....so we can have a nice LONG weekend together!!!

The teachers are preparing report cards today. So, next weekend is conferences. So that means we have more early release days!! Yeah!!

Nathan was really acting this morning, so I just know he's going to be real pleasant today!!! Wish me luck! Good luck with your day!!!

Next week is spring break for us, and I am staying home from work to be with them...my dh keeps telling me that he wishes he could take the entire week off of work to be home....I would GLADLY give this "vacation" up to him...hahaha. This is going to be an exciting time. Hopefully I can get a day without kids, and schedule keeping to rest up from my "vacation".

I had that happen once, it was sooooo funny. At least no one at his school will know about it, LOL! I had a day when I thought they were off and they weren't. I had put the wrong day in my calendar! The school nurse called and said, "How is Ian feeling?" Well, we got right up and got dressed, breakfast and teeth brushed. We had to go through our normal routine and it took over an hour to get him to school. Boy, was I embarrassed.

Does it seem like they have a lot more days off than we did??? They have today off for end of quarter, all next week off for spring break, then the following Monday for "school improvement day." They had almost a full month over the winter holidays, and there are at least two other days off each month with a few exceptions. It's pretty tough on families where both parents work during the day.

OHHHH, you had to remind me. Today is report card day.

UGH!!!!!! Or maybe they come home on monday. I don't remember but here we go again. Routing for decent grades and no notes.

Evelyn, poor David. I bet he was glad to have a day off though even if mom wasn't prepared.
