Some of you may have read my "social story", or given up halfway through because it was so long. Well, I decided to not bother. I can't really imagine David agreeing to read a social story. I'm sure he'd crumple it up, throw it on the floor, and say, "Well that's DUMB."

Still, we went. We decided to take Nathan out to a toy store to spend some of his birthday money, and we told David he could buy a little something with his allowance, BUT we weren't going anywhere until we could see his eyebrows.

We went to the haircut place we usually go to, and the lady recognized us. David was much more resistant than usual. He went limp, and I had to drag him to the chair. He growled and said, "OW!!!! Hey, watch it!! That HURTS" every time she touched his hair at all. I had actually kind of forgotten how much he hates having his head touched at all, because these days he does let me wash it.

So, it's kind of a funny haircut. But we can see his eyes and eyebrows now, which is good enough for me.

I do kind of relate to his sensory issues. The other day I pulled some tissue paper out of some brand new shoes, and the feeling of the tissue paper on my hands actually made me feel like screaming. It was weird; like sickish, panicky feeling, and a primal urge to growl and attack. I get that feeling with a few other tactile things, but of course, I control myself, and no one has to know that I've had an unpleasant feeling. If a kid like David has that same feeling when having his hair touched, then I'm impressed that he did as well as he did. Interestingly, I don't remember having that kind of sensivity until my thirties. Go figure.

Mike is always tough for haircuts and is back to where only mom is allowed to do them and it takes forever to get him convinced, prepped and to do it (meaning weeks).

Well last time we went to the hairdresser they had this clip on watch for all kids hair cuts. That worked, Mike wanted one so bad he agreed to get it cut.

The poor hairdresser, I didn't prep her in advance and Mike kept jumping and growling anytime she went near his ears. He held it together though and she got it done. He looked nice.

I'm glad you can see his eyebrows! I can relate to the sensory thing as well, I really dislike getting my hair cut, and it's gotten worse as I got older. AND all of my kids have done the going limp and defensive thing. My boys have all just gotten my hair cuts. I can whip the clippers out and have them done in less than 5 min and they are much better about doing it in the kitchen or on the screen porch than in the barber shop. My oldest-- now 14 (ADD and SID), has been going and getting his done at the barber shop for about 2 yrs-- he hates it but he prefers not to have the mom buzz anymore. He's matured enough not to shout at them, and he just ignores them when they talk to him or he grunts.
