teacher with a foreign accent?

Hi Gals,
School has started and the 5th grade teacher has been pretty accomadating. What a relief!
My son had trouble on Friday with the Science teacher who has a strong accent. He seems to have a lot of trouble with staying on task and appropriate in class when he has to work hard to understand the speaker. Does anyone else experience this? Is there anything I can do? Does anything help?
Paula and Joel (10yo Aspergers, highly verbal, high IQ, poor social skills.)

wow, that sounds tough. We've never run across that situation. Is that the only science teacher?

Paula,
To me this sounds like the perfect application for an aide: Translate for him and help him to keep on task.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Well - wouldn't an aide be just the loveliest thing!
Still fighting the good fight when it come to the aide. It took the public school 2+ years just to get his IEP to a functional level. No - there's no aide yet - he's in 5th grade (last year at our elementary). I expect everything to fall apart at 6th because that's when they change classes and have 6 different teachers. Anyway, last year's teacher was very accomadating. This year's teacher is great so far! We'll have to see how it goes.
Science is only once a week. I'm hoping he gets used to the accent.

Paula,
5th grade is when Kyle finally got an aide so there is hope.
I hope it gets better in science+++

I had a feeling you were going to say that. I'm sorry.
I can't think of any other suggestions excapt perhaps to get coursenotes home and go over the lesson with him again. That's not exactly the best solution, I know.
I do hope he gets used to it.
