As a knitter, this is a no-brainer for me. I would knit him a nice soft but sophisticated executive scarf.

If you do craft, something custom handmade is definitely the way to go. It says more than any amount of money can,

A hand written thank you note is always appreciated by a professional. So many people are quick to complain, but so few give compliments or say thank you. I'm sure it would be welcome. Giving the donation is also a nice idea, but the thank you note would be treasured, I'm sure, for years to come.

It's wonderful that you had such a caring doctor. As you noted with the other professionals, it's not always the case. I'm sorry your xh was such a jerk and ruined the care that your son was getting, but it seems like he turned out to be a good kid anyway.
