I wrote a post a couple weeks ago about questions I had regarding sensory needs my daughter had and I thought I would quickly update you! I'm so sorry I'm not able to fully participate here on the board but I really appreciate your support whenever I'm here!!!
Izzy was officially diagnosed with autism last week at the first/initial IEP meeting by the school psychologist, after he did the ADOS, several other autism checklists (such as the MCHAT) and review of history and observation. The team recommended six hour, four day a week preschool program in a class for autistic children. The goals seemed pretty in line with our concerns and though we're a little concerned about the amount of time they want her in school (she's three and never been away from home), we're overall very happy with how it all went after hearing how bad it can go.
I bought her some of the chewlry (sp??) and one of the chewy P things. She really likes the chew P thingy. It's helping somewhat which is good though I think it'll just be one of those things that might be an issue for a while but the chewing stuff really does help.
Anyway, she's a little genius lately with her speech and the things she's saying and sounds like she's sixteen, not three, which is hilarious and sweet. We have so much to work on and I feel a little overwhelmed (there's a whole other medical side we're dealing with as well) but I'm excited to have an official starting point (FINALLY), putting professionals on our side and helping us move forward for/with Isabella.
Thanks again for caring when I'm here and offering encouragement and suggestions when I need it!!
