Appietiate naturally? Wth Josh on his meds he has not been doing very well in the weight gain department. He has stayed flirting at the 70 pound mark for almost a year. He has not gained an inch in almost 2. He is 12 years old. My next step probabaly next year or even by the fall is to go to an endocrinologist to see if there is a biological reason outside of Genetics(DH and I are short and DH is only 5'2") and the meds for why Josh has stalled.

The Ped won't give me a script for Periactin, all she can say is encourage the Boost or Ensure but Josh is not always too good on this. Idon't go overboard if Josh goes for the empty calorie stuf, but Josh really isn't too bad with this. He prefers veggies over meat. But I can se him pouring a bowl of cereal, eat half and dumping the rest in the sink same with he Boost, drink half dump out the rest..

So I can see where an appetiate stimulant may be a good solution. Josh is not aggressive enough for Ripseradal and the other meds which have the side effect of weight gain.. So i figured natural is the way to go..

Any good answers

Doh, I see this post after I already responded to your other post...oops;)

Yeah don't mess with risperadl unless you need to; we have the oppsite issue with Liam, he's 7 and 80 lbs; he really needs to lose around 10 pounds (he is stocky and can hold the weigh well, but lately he is needing size ten clothes, thatnk God it's shorts weather, lol).

As for natural appetite stimulants....I know when I went swimming I was always starving afterwards, 'course the irony there is he will burn all those calories too. Is he at an unhealthy weight for his height? Or is he just a lil' guy? I ask as even if Liam loses 10 lbs, he'll be big for a 7 year old but his shoulders ad upper torso are pretty wide, so he can carry it well.Although right now, we have the truffl;e shuffle going on (Goonies anyone?)

Hey Rina

I don't know of anything specific, but when I'm looking for something I just go ask at the local health food store.

Thanks for the responds. Josh has been on 1st Concerta, then Focalin and now Strattera. to be put back on Focalin. With the Concerta and Focalin we do drug holidays . Esp over Vacations and we will do so this summer once Boy Scout camp is over. And i admit he does seem to gain weight doing that.

But Josh is a little guy to begin wioth has always beenon the very low end of the charts..5% percentile and just below since he was born, but he has always consitantly gained within that range. Yes DH and I are small in height I am 5'3"(trying to lose weight here) and DH is only 5'2" so I know we don't exactly have the tall gene and my middle son is also Short for his age but he looks more stocky for it(and yet Ethan is my pickiest eatter). So I am guessing genetics is a major player in this game. But I do notice that Josh just does not have a big appeitiate for a boy his age. I am talking how by now these boys should be bottomless pits and Josh is not quite there.

I knwo he gets into eatting jags of must have foods and I let him to an extent as long as it doesn't interfer with dinner. BUt I guess I have to nto worry if he wants mac and Cheese for dessert. Who knows..
I do plan to visit A natural food store tomorrow and see what happens
