Remember just before Christmas we had such glowing reports about how great Kyle was doing? He really was doing great and it sure was good while it lasted.
Today he melted down in science class. Of course we get the canned all to frequent response from the school when asked what happened. "we have no idea" Come on. At least they have the sense not to say that to my face. They must see my violent tentencies in my eyes. J/K The story from Kyle is they are working in groups on an experiment. The whole class "won't shut up" and the teacher is giving instructions at the same time. Kyle said he couldn't hear her and I know that has nothing to do with how loud she talked. So apparently he missed the instructions, made a mistake, and the teacher "yelled" & "whailed" on him for not paying attention. Now I know he uses those terms real loosely and don't think she really yelled like I think of yelling. But then he "went off", refused to work, made grunting noises, and who knows what else. I didn't actually talk to anyone, the aide called dh. I would have asked lots of questions and gotten all the details.
Yesterday the special ed teacher told me he'd been having a hard time in science class. Kyle told me yesterday it was because the teacher is making him do the writing & graphing and the feel of the paper drives him insane. I the sped teacher back and suggested the put the paper in a plastic sleve and let him use an overhead marker. She emailed me back and said they'd try it and they noticed Kyle's increase in sensory problems. He's been chewing his fingers at school. He's never been a chewer or sensory seeker except once right after we introduced enzymes. What is going on with this kid?
