Tony Attwood - heard of him?
| Tue, 05-20-2008 - 10:14pm |
Tony Attwood is giving a day long workshop/presentation at a place near my house. I got the info from the director of Claire's autism center, who suggested I go. Has anyone heard of him? Do you think it would be worth the $$? All I know about him is that he's written a ton of books about Asperger's. I am generally wary of a workshop with only one presenter, but if anyone knows that he's good, I might find a sitter and go... TIA!

His writings were the first real attainable publications to deal with Aspergers in the 1990's. When my cousin was dx with Asperger's in 1999 (although since then he presents more as hf-moderate Autistic) it really was the only book you could find in the store. I think he would be worth the "goo," as we'd say in Ireland.

I have never seen him speak, but I would jump at the chance. He is a world-class authority on AS and has done a lot of work highlighting the problem on AS in girls. He sees that the disorder is often "hidden" in girls, because girls are wired a little differently than boys... well, just go and see him if you can.

Based on his books I'd go see him, he's bound to be an interesting speaker (I don't agree with some of his stuff but he's still been pretty ground breaking in a lot of ways). On a similar basis (liked his books but didn't agree with everything he wrote) I went to see Steve Biddulph, the author of 'Raising Boys' and 'Raising Happy Children' and he blew me (and the 300+ seater theatre he filled) away. It was awesome, and I only wish DH had been there. Go, if you can, it sounds like a great opportunity.

Absolutely!
Yes, I've seen him, and yes, I'd go again, and yes, it's totally worth the money.
I saw TA right after Isaac was dx Aspie.
