Just a random observation about Henry and the shows about autism--
I dvr'd the Nightline special the other night about Asperger's in Middle School *and* the Oprah show about autism. I read some of the other threads about the Oprah show, and I realize she showed the more severe cases, but I just didn't see Henry at all in anyone on the Oprah show, but--whoa!--that Nightline special kind of hit me over the head. You know--sometimes I still have those days where I wonder if Henry doesn't really have AS because blah, blah, blah. But even though he is only 7, I could have switched him with the kids in that Nightline special.
I guess because I'm always around him and have always been around him, I don't see the glaring differences. I've really noticed lately, though, that he has a very "affected" way of talking to people. His stuttering is back, but now I can tell that it isn't really stuttering. He's just having a hard time getting his words out--he'll look to the side over and over until he finally says whatever it is he is saying.
I don't even have a point.
:D

Actually I saw the Oprah show today, and I have to say the headbanging thing is totally Isaac.
Those kids were pretty severe, but I could see some of the stimming with him.
Didn't see Oprah so I can't say about that. I know in all the shows I have never seen another kid exactly like either of mine but there is a little of this one, a little of that. One of the problems is Cait is a girl and WHEN is the last time they showed A GIRL WITH AS??????? HMMMMMM????????
Mike was a bit more affected than the boys in that video. At least around people he is, at home or in a safe place with the right people, in the right mood, he might be like one of those boys a bit but he would never let a stranger video him, lol. Things like Daniel as a young kid having that odd halloween costume and being called a "retard" definitely hit home. The way the one boy with glasses said "yup" sounds like my autistic nephew. i can't imagine him having conversations like that about himself and self understanding. On the other hand he can be really social and connected at times, and at others he is completely out of it.
Cait could do it a bit better, she would have Eli's eye contact maybe a touch worse since it would be a stressful sitaution. She is more "quirky" like those boys but ti is different becasue she is a girl. She can "fake" it better than many boys and she seems to have surrounded herself with mothering type girls who are nice to her in school.
