UGh- Wish me luck - IEP meeting

It is basically the last real day of school and I have to go to an IEP meeting. I SOOOOO don't want to.

We are discussing the results of the extra evals I wanted done when we had Cait's Triennial. Well the extra evals are as useless as the originals. I have to request IEE's and I just don't feel like going to an ugly meeting on the last darn day of school. OK so really they have school tomorrow and 1/2 day Monday but it is field trips and such both days and Cait isn't even going to school those days.

Oh and I am being sent in alone to the wolves again. DH can't make it and I didn't think in time to get our clinical psych to go. Last time I went alone it was god awful.

calgon take me away!

Dear Renee,

Poor Mama Grizzly Rear sounds tired. Sending you delish red wine to go with the Calgon soak and cyber chocolates.

Man, too bad you have to go alone. Can you try your therapist just in case? I so understand about not wanting to go alone. Hey, I can send my projected astro-self. What time should I "travel" there?!? I promise to whisper loud enough for you to hear and them to REALLY wonder...

Gals? Any other Astro-travelers? Shall we send a gaggle of us with Renee to an IEP meeting in sunny CA?

OH Renee,
Hugs and Good luck, I wish everything will go well. I tell you by the time these kids grow up to be adults, we will have total grey hair.

I definately would have astral-traveled to the meeting but I got here too late. So I hope it went well. I dread IEP meetings no matter the time of year. I'm sorry to hear the evals were worthless. I'm starting to think they ALL are. Let us know how it went.

"I tell you by the time these kids grow up to be adults, we will have total grey hair"

WILL NOT! I color mine. Age in denial. However, I am having a harder time covering the wrinkles dadgumit

To all,

Thank you much. It went as well as it could. I felt strong and empowered (must have been those astro-chicks) and stuck up for myself and miss Cait and it went pretty well. Back to my assertive professional self.

I requested the IEE for the psych assessment. I made no friends in that area. I also pushed for more help in math. I didn't for the APE because though it is a rediculusly bad report I doubt I would be able to access services and I am not sure that I want to access APE, I have motor concerns but not sure that is what I want. She did verbally agree to the motor concerns I noted but told me these are addressed through OT and PT.

At anyrate, the OT is in process as is a PT referral through insurance. I will await the results of these and figure out what we are going to do for her motor skills before I get ugly on the APE.

On the good side the SDC teacher requested her, Cait and I meet at the very beginning of the year to set up a system that will work for Cait for organization and all get on the same page as to what is going on. She wants to increase communication and also make sure we all know what is going on in each others camps so we can work together better. Right now Cait would "forget" or misrepresent from one to the other often. Usually because she forgot, was stressed or didn't understand or just to get out of it.

Also, on the good side they had mentioned Cait made great progress this year socially and behaviorally in class. She was the lead in the play at the end of the year and did wonderfully.

On the bad, well just the nerves leading up to requesting the IEE and telling the psych why I didn't accept her report and trying to deal with the academic issue. If I heard one more time "well alot of kids are like that" I think I would scream. Alot of kids have messy backpacks, alot of kids forget homework, alot of kids have a hard time with thier math final. I told them I don't care what alot of kids do. Kids may have messy backpacks but most likely have a decent idea where something is in there or could find it - she can't. Everyone forgets something once in a while but we are talking here about a kid who would forgets to turn in homework 5 minutes after her SDC teacher takes it out of her backpack and hands it to her. A kid with SEVERE executive function deficits that aren't just going to get better with age.

So there ya have it. I am alive and about to have wine.

Renee,
Honestly, how do you do it? It seems like you have an IEP meeting every week and if not that something else related to it!How do you keep it all together? Anyway, glad to hear it went well!

Organization baby! And some weeks I have had 3 or more, lol.

It is my own fault. Aside from my own 2 (since we took Dave off an IEP- it used to be 3) I also have 4-5 surrogates for IEPs. Young men who have no parent to sign for them for IEP purposes. Often meetings I mention are for them as well.

But yes, I did have 2 meetings in the past 2 weeks for cait and Mike and 2 meetings for surrogates. Begining and ending of the year are busy. Beginning of the year getting things in place for the year and the end of the year planning for the next. Plus Mike's annual is in the fall and Cait's is in the spring.

Just wait. Mike has been referred to the diagnostic center. So next fall we will have the diagnostic center stuff (either 2 days up in LA in intensive evals or they come to the school and observe. Either way, MONSTER report to go over) and his triennial all next fall AND he goes to 5th grade camp and we are already making special plans for how to get that to work. He has a female aide, can't deal with a new aide but what happens if something goes on at night in the cabin? I didn't think of that, his teacher did.

No wonder I am a touch loony
