Hello, it was a surprise to see my previous post. Thank you all for the responses. Dakota has an appointment to see a new child psychitrist Feb 7th. This guy asked for his behavioral health records besides me filling out those long forms. So he'll get more information about Dakota than the last c psych doc we saw had.

The medicine he tried putting Dakota on was Celexa, which is an antidepresssant. Supposedly it should help his behavior. Like I said he had given me the medicine only because I must have been so concerned about Dakota's behavior that I'd drive 1 and half hours to see him so I must have wanted to medicate him. Yea, right...Actually it is quite the opposite. So hopefully this coming visit doesn't turn out the same.

Thanks for the suggested books. Unfortunately right now my best friend is my Medical/Surgical for Nurses textbook since I now have started back to nursing school. Ugh! It is the thickest book I own and not really by choice. heehee This is my last semster of nursing school. Yahoo! Back to the subject....One book that was suggested to me to read was also The Explosive Child.

Right now at this moment the problem we currently have with Dakota is that he has the chicken pox! Yes, he has been vaccinated but he came home a few days before the spots broke out with a note saying the school had several cases of children, vaccinated & nonvaccinated, coming down with it. So now I'm waiting for Sierra to get it. So far Dakota's hasn't been too bad. Only a few spots and so far he hasn't complained of itching. I remember when I was in 3rd grade with them boy did I itch.

Oh, regarding the question on why he was placed in special ed. He was placed there first in preschool. I had asked at the end of last year if there was possibly any chance of Dakota getting into a regular classroom because I felt he needed more mature (not to say anything bad about the kids in Dakota's class) role models. Dakota can be a monkey see, monkey do. So I felt that if he was placed in the general classroom he'll see more appropriate behavior and perhaps mimick it. I don't know. They understood my view point but they strongly felt that Dakota should at least another year be in the spec ed program. Talking to this years teacher the next year doesn't look promising either of a regular classroom due to his explosive behavior he's having like pushing his desk over and throwing chairs. Though she did mention about maybe trialing him in a regular classroom for math since Dakota seems to love math. So hopefully that'll happen.

Well, thanks, Michelle
