Update on Claire

Just a quick update for those that have been following our family's recent saga-
Claire started on the Geodon last Friday night. She spent the weekend in a drug-induced stupor, but was very agreeable to everything that was asked or expected of her. She was off school Monday, which gave us another full day to let her system start to acclimate to the new med. Tuesday was the first meltdown free school day (and that means before, during, and after school) that she's had in well over a month. Yesterday and today both saw one or two "minor" issues, but I truly mean minor. (i.e.- Telling me she couldn't do her homework because she had other plans, but agreeing to do the work within 5 minutes.)
So...we are, once again, cautiously optimistic. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out over the coming weeks. I know we're no where close to being out of the woods, but for now, she's not hitting herself, screaming uncontrollably, etc.- and for that, I'm breathing again.

Amy,
Thanks for the update. I have been thinking about you guys.
Well, I know it is very early days, but I'm glad things are looking up and you are getting some breathing space. ((((hugs)))) to you for all you've been through

I remember the drug induced stupor with geodon...once his body became used to it, we only saw the that at bedtime. I would recommend after she's been on it about 30 days to get a liver/kidney function blood work done. I know with Liam blood draws involve bribes and galore so I know how hard that might be, but it's worth it to ensure her organs are handling the new med.
We just had similar blood work done last week as Liam being on 4 meds ...well, I insisted.
So proud of you and Claire for this wonderful (and hopefully long lived) step:)))

Amy,
I'm so glad that you've had some respite from the storm. Hopefully, she'll acclimate to the new drug and still respond favorably to it. I had been wondering how the new trial had been going. Thanks for the update. Good luck!

Dear Amy,
Thank goodness for some respite and for poor Claire to be calmer, well, it's better for her, too. Good luck with everything. I am thinking of you and continuing to cross fingers for good results.
yours,
Sara
