Sounds like a good appointment.
On the adderal, if it doesn't work you may want to ask about a low dose clonodine or tenex. Cait had horrible attending in preK but not true ADHD and did horrible on stimulants but clonodine was like a godsend. She started sleeping through the night and just one evening dose was enough to really help her gain her focus during school. It was a really great thing. (this coming from the anti-med mom, lol) Actually clonodine is one I have liked for both kids but you have to monitor thier bloodpressure and it can make them really sleepy. It also stays in teh bloodstream short term typically so if you use it during the day it can really make them go up and down. We used a patch with Mike and that kept him more even, but it did give him a rash. Hydrocortisone cream and moving the patch every 2 days seemed to take care of that problem.
On the potty obsession, he likely doesn't need to go 5 times at the zoo unless he has an infection. That is one where it sounds like a typical kid thing with an autism twist. Kids will do this kind of thing when they get potty trained because it is like a new skill and new adventure, but with an ASD kid you have to be careful that it does not turn into an obsession. Perhaps some sort of "wait" card or other concrete intervention to cut down on the potty trips. You can have a token board with potty trips and each times he goes he takes a token away and only so many trips are allowed. Or a wait power card type thing with a little social story of how we can wait to go potty. Or even a mini Time Timer where he can see the time counting down until he can go again and hopefully you will be able to later slowly fade this out and it will be a non issue.
Reminds me, I am supposed to be ordering a time timer. UGH.

All in all it seems like he's really doing well and I wouldn't worry too much about the interest in his "member" because every grown man I know is obsessed with it anyway(LOL).

Sounds like the appointment went well. Let us know how the new meds and melatonin are working. As for his interest in his "friend".......geeze, I have no idea what to say.....I like the timer idea.....that might help.
Good luck,
Christie
That does sound like a good appointment!
Tina,
I am a little concerned with the decision to switch Risperdal for Adderall. They are completely different classes of drugs, to address different issues. Adderall should not be taken unless one has true ADHD. if one is only 'apparently' ADHD because of sensory or other issues, Adderall could be disastrous.
First of all: it is

Tina,
Sometimes Malcolm will get on these kicks where he wants to stay for long periods of time on the pot. Because we have had some success with this, I often will ask if he needs some cold water to make everything "move on out" and this often does the trick. Do you have him off refined sugar? This also seems to help, when we lower his refined sugar to next-to-nothing. I notice it gets more frequent when he's been socializing lots where this is tons of junk food.
Just our experince.
And, being friendly with the member? Pretty normal stuff, I think, we tell him to keep it private...
