It went pretty well. I listened to them, they listened to me. The advocate asked questions I wouldn't think of and was alot of help.
The school Psych. thought the FBA was a joke as well. I agreed to allow them to do another one at the beginning of next year if they used another Dr. If that one is lacking I will ask for the IEE. When we get the FBA we'll use it to seek specific accomodations in class, recess, lunch .....etc.
He will be moving on to 2nd grade into the SpEd integrated class with a max of 21 kids (still high I know there are no other options in our school) up to 10 of them can be kids with IEPs; there is a full time para. All services will take place in the classroom. They are getting me the info on Project Read to be approved by the neuropsych who recommended other phonics based reading programs.
They have offered summer school when we asked about a summer reading program and he is currently signed up. I am very nervous about this for many reasons. His teacher described it as "basically daycare" in a private conversation. But supposedly all of his IEP will transfer there. I don't know who these people are and how they will be with Sam. He does need the structure of school all year, I will admit that. He regresses alot when there is vacation....etc But if summer school is clueless about helping his specific needs then it won't be much help at all. Plus it's 9-2 everyday! There are a couple vacation weeks right after school ends and right before it starts again, but ugh! I want to talk to the teacher he will be with first and get the paper work from them about it before I decided to pull him out. It has the potential to help if it's done right. If it doesn't look good, we'll ask for them to pay for private tutoring in the reading program the neuropsych recommended. There's also a summer half day camp that qualifies as an extended year program for kids with academic difficulties and developmental delays that I'm getting some info. I really didn't want him in school all day all summer as we will be trying drug therapy and I need to keep and eye on him. I don't trust summer school to give good feedback.
I think that's it, I'm a bit fried right now!

I bet you are fried. IEP's are always so draining.
Glad most of it worked out well. Summer school always bugged me too. Ya know, it is likely optional and you can always change your mind. I know the teachers here have told me that a good number of the kids that sign up for summer school never show. Last summer we pulled the kids out of summer school a week early to do vacation bible school. It wasn't a big deal at all.
Reading is important but if you find it isn't helping as much as you had hoped you can always pull him.
On the good side, typically it helps our kids alot to keep a regular schedule through the summer. You may find it works out better than a typicall summer break.
Crossing my fingers on next year that it goes well.
