I had another long conversation on the phone today with the OT. She's added a bunch of stuff. We are making some changes at home. We are going to try out the new strategies for a week or two before we make any programing changes. Here is what's being tried:
Wilbarger Deep Pressure & Proprioceptive Technique 3 X day @ school & once @ home.
Social story and break card in all rooms, training with aide on how to recognize need for break, when to prompt Kyle to use card, use of social story.
Training for all staff on using less talk with Kyle & more non-verbal strategies when he's stressed or in a noisy environment and using less staff to intervien so Kyle doesn't feel overwhelmed.
Fidgets.
Theraputic Listening Program @ home.
Adaptive PE consultant coming in to observe and make recomendations again.
Hopefully these things will help but if not then we'll talk about the mainstreaming issue.
Samantha

I hope the interventions, deep pressure and other helps will give him the sense of control he needs. I agree that training of staff is important to make mainstreaming work.
glad they're willing to do everything they can before scrapping the mainstreaming.

Good to hear Samatha. I was thinking about you the other day, remebering the first post.
