updates anyone?

I was going to post a we've been in school 2 weeks update and figured I would like to hear from all others as well. This is a busy time of year, I bet there are loads of folks who have some updates to post.

Cait - Well, I am cautiously optomistic but still not thrilled with what is going on in school. My mom radar is picking up on things but so far she is ok so it is hard to say.

One the good side, she has a friend. A little boy from her AS class is also in all her mainstream classes and they are really hitting it off. She can't wait to see Mitchell and they went to the fundraising dance/swim party together and had a great time (with me and the aide chaparoning of course). So far she has an A average in math though I don't know her other grades. This first week is all review of the easy stuff though.

On the bad side, I feel like I am bugging the teacher whenever I email with questions. I have never found that feeling to be a good omen. Homework is spotty. Though we are making it at home and at school it is a struggle. The problem is I am not sure I know all what she is supposed to be doing and I have a feeling she has been missing some. She will have most of her homework written in on her sheet, but some she will tell me verbally and doesn't know the directions. Other things she has written down and she has no idea what it means so I have to try to figure it out. When she does finally get what she is supposed to do, she doesn't know the due date. Today I think she had to miss lunch period (after eating) to work on an assignment that wasn't done. And the Language Arts teacher wants her to come for homework club in her class on Thursday. I keep hearing that the academics are going ok, but if so why do they want her in homework club?

Mike- So far so good. Waiting for the other shoe to fall, lol. He had one little "glitch" yesterday. A near meltdown that was well on it's way but he pulled himself out of it and made good choices so they heavily reinforced that. Today was his first day of mainstreaming and I hear it went wonderful! Which is fantastic, HOWEVER, he got in my car with his bad day scowl in a mood. Usually that happens if he is stressed and he told me his mainstreaming was 'fine' with attitude. lol. So I think he did well today but he was one stressed little dude.

Emily- Is a peach and really her reading is coming along. I think it is near grade level. her spelling absolutely ROTS though! Poor kid! Well at least there is always computers with spell check. She has a peach for a teacher who I already adore and is making loads of friends.

Dave - IS THE MAN!!! He so needed school. He is doing absolutely STELLAR! I think he really needed this to challenge that active brain. At home he is a bit much so I bought some DMAE and LECI again. It did work for him last time well and today we are having a good time. It just takes that edge off and helps him focus. I really really think maybe he is just ADHD with SID and alot of spiritedness. I hope so anyway.

He does have a couple little social glitches so he isn't out of the woods for AS yet. He just doesn't get when he is bugging someone else. He has one boy who was his best bud since school started and yesterday he says "Philip says if I keep playing guns he won't be my friend" So I tried to talk with him about it and he just couldn't get why he shouldn't play guns with philip because he wanted to play the gun game. Sure enough today for the first time since school began, Dave was not sitting next to philip at lunch when I went to pick him up. He didn't even say good bye to him. So we wait and see I suppose. OTherwise he is a wonderfully social guy, just tends to be very impulsive and in your face type.
