Ok folks, we haven't had a cl in like FOREVER so it is time for a roll call and update thread. Who are you, who are your kids, and what are they up too. What brings you here, etc.

Well, I'm Sarah, I've been on Ivillage from the beginning, but only knew about AS and PDDs in general for the last year. My daughter and I have AS and SID. My daughter will be 3 in January and hasn't been diagnosed yet with AS, but I have and we both have been DX with SID.

I have Kailey, nearly 3, SID, AS
Bethany, nearly 2- had sudden speech loss and lots of ASD characteristics for six months, and was then suddenly ok. I'm keeping a close watch on her.
Taryn 7 months- avoids eye contact, rocks constantly back and forth, but seems to be fine sensory wise so far.

cl/schmie-el who needs em?

I am Paula, 38, Irish-from Ireland, although now and for the past 12 years, resident in New York. I am married to Jim, 40, Scottish-from-Scotland, and we have two fabulous children:

Peter is 7.5, has HFA and the biggest smile in the world. He has been receiving services since 27 months and is currently in a self-contained 2nd grade class, mainstreamed in a group for Math, art, PE and music, and he also gets Speech , PT and PT 2x each per week. He plays soccer in a regular league (Jim coaches) and also take Karate, where his enthusiasm far outstrips his ability, but he loves it, so who cares?

Siobhan (Shiv-oan), is 5.5 and currently officially "at Risk for Asperger's syndrome" She started receiving services at 3yo, and they have made a huge difference, -especially with her sensory issues. She is mainstreamed in K, with an aide and a special-ead teacher pushed in for 45 minutes every day. She receives speech therapy in a group 2x each week. She also takes Soccer (Jim coaches) and karate and is pushing for dance lessons, which I am trying to figure out how to fit into or busy lives.

I just had conferences with both kids' teachers, and both are doing beautifully.

We have lots of pets: a 70lb boxer cross named Tyrone. An old-lady tuxedo cat named Rascal. Two 12-week-old sibling tuxedo kitties named Hannah and George, and a 9 week-old gray kitten named Ringo. We also have two aquaria downstairs with freshwater fish and aquatic frogs, and the kids keep a betta fish in each of their rooms.

me: I have just returned to my career *again* (I have been out of work more than in it these past 4 years). I am a Wall St technologist, (I guess that's the best way to describe it here) and am adjusting to the demands of working, commuting and mothering my kids. One of the things I am doing for me, is exploring a diagnosis for myself. I am about to be evaluated for ADHD on Dec 6th. I am sure I have it, -and SID. I also suspect possible BPD. I have always been functional as an adult (not so much as a child), but I think getting help and meds if needed will help me more now, that my life is so incredibly fast-paced and busy that there is no room to correct if an error happens. KWIM?

Jim is just Jim. "The Rock" my stepmother calls him. He is a stellar Dad. Patient, loving and understanding.

I have been on these boards for about 3 years, and would probably have lost it long ago if it weren't for Renee, Candes, LR and many of the people here. Where else would I go at 2:30 am when back pain keeps me from sleeping?

Hi,

I'm Cathy (37 last week, so that doesn't make me really fully 37 does it LOL?). I am here because of Jack Attack, age 4+ and PDD-NOS. His name is a misnomer b/c he's actually very sweet. We also have to DDs, age 7 and NT and age 22 months and NT (at this point). It is pretty chaotic around here.

Jack is in a reverse mainstream pre-school at our local elementary school doing ABA and also getting speech and OT (big sensory issues) and some peer time. And we also have an extensive (and expensive!) home ABA program, plus more speech and OT. The little boy works HARD. He's a good sport.

He is currently on a dev. upswing so my mood is lighter. I was thinking last night that it's been almost two years since we identified his issues. It's not that the pain is less, I think, it's just that I'm more accustomed to it.

I feel fortunate for several things, among them is that my DH is "with the program." Took him a bit to catch on, but now he's more aggressive about all this than I am. He's a rock.

That's all from here! You ladies rock.
