My son (age 3) has ASD. My daughter is 5 months. I have given her the first 2 sets of vaccines but am really starting to re-think continuing to get her vaccinated. I'm desperate for comments from other people in this situation. It's so confusing and such a hard decision. I know there are pros and cons both ways. Ugh, what to do !!!

This is a very personal decision and no doubt you will see/read so many arguments one way and the other. I can tell you what we do. ds#1 ASD (7) was given many vaccines, we stopped after age 2. Ds#2 was given MOST until age 2 and then we stopped. Dd(6 months) has received NO VACCINES. We've talked to the ped and we are planning to wait until age two and then revisit what vaccines we belive are truly necessary.

I had all the childhood illnesses, measles, mumps, chicken pox and all that happened was I got better and now I have immunity for life, which I pass to my dd through breastmilk. Vaccines need many boosters to truly be effective and its still a crapshoot. There was an outbreak of chicken pox in ds#1s school this year and it was all kids with both shots who got sick anyway (ironically ds#1 only has the first shot and he didn't ge sick, lol).

Anyway I'm rambling and not actually helping you much. All I can do is suggest if you are worried perhaps you want to delay the rest of the shots for a bit and revisit it when you are more comfortable with your research. As for school etc, most states have a religious waiver which I just sign and get notarized for all three kids.

I can tell you what we did. Our oldest 2 are ASD and my youngest was showing some signs in infancy so we were extra cautious. We spread his out so he didn't get a ton at once and checked to make sure he didn't get any with thermerisol. And we don't give unneccessary ones (like flu for the older kids, etc).

Dave is 7 and since he had his shots there have been lots of studies saying that vaccines are safe and they have taken thermerisol out of most. It is still worth some caution but it isn't worth not giving the important vaccines. It is definitely important to protect kids from viruses such as polio, Tetnus, etc.

I also would go beyond vaccines and make your environment as green as possible. Try to feed all natural foods, locally grown if possible or organic. Locally grown is actually often better. Stay away from additives and toxins. Use environmentally friendly cleaners and yard care stuff. I think the toxins that affect our kids go beyond vaccines. There are so many that it is prudent to be careful in all areas particularly while they are developing.

For house cleaning you can do this real inexpensively. Most household jobs can be done with peroxide, vinegar, and bakingsoda. I like to have simple green on hand as well and murphy's oil soap for my wood. On very rare occasion I need bleach (have to get some for some mildewy grout that is getting away from me) but I use it very sparingly. Then I buy environmentally friendly dish soap and laundry stuff and that is virtually it.

It is a very personal decision.

Kyle had all of his vaccines and then some :( I regret it terribly. Hannah had all of her early shots but no boosters. I'm glad we stopped when we did and wish we'd stopped sooner.

If I could go back in time I wouldn't vaccinate.

I recently read something that about the tetanus vaccine that really stuck with me. "As I have mentioned before I work with several endurance athletes. Last summer one of them had a DPT in August. We followed the excretion of the aluminum starting the day after the vaccine. It took 9 months for the excretion to abate and this was in a healthy athlete who is in amazing shape. So I would suggest that you consider using the supports for aluminum for several months time." Dr. Amy Yasko Yikes.
