Well, I got the boys their Valentine's Day cards for school. We've been working on them the last couple of days. One the first day, I sat the boys down at the kitchen table, and asked Nathan if he remembered what he was supposed to do....he said no. So, I explained that he had to write down his classmates names and his name on each of the cards, and then cross off the the names on his list as he finished each card. I had dishes to do, so I left the boys to do their thing.
Then Nathan says to me....while holding a card up against his lips...."this one's for me." OOOHHHH!!! I forgot to tell him that he DOESN'T write one to himself!!! He wrote To: Nathan....From: Nathan. Tyler LAUGHED HYSTERICALLY!!! Crying tears...the works!!! He was on the floor!!!
Nathan smiles and asks Tyler, "What?? Why are you laughing?"
So, anyway, I explained it to Nathan and he continued on with the rest of the cards. He erased his name and replaced it with a classmate. (actually, Tyler erased it....Nathan stomped off, saying, "I can't do it!!!! but that's another story!)
Yesterday, they finished up signing their cards. Nathan had a few cards left...so he asks me if he can have one for himself. I said ok. So Nathan writes on the card.......
To: Nathan From: Me
It was soooo cute!!!!! He even made me fold the card in half and apply the sticker to close it...just like the other cards!!! (I think he's actually going to take it to school and deliver it to HIMSELF!!)

My kids always write a card to themselves too. I usually buy a candy to stick on the card (so much for no sugar but kids gotta be kids too) and now they want a candy too so they give themselves a card. But there was a time where if you are giving one to everyone in the class, why not themselves too. They wouldn't have gotten the why not.
But that is cute. Good of him not to get upset though at it being erased or tyler laughing. That would have set Mike off in a big way and may have ruined the project.

Renee,
Yeah...we do the candy thing too!! We bought some chocolate kisses, which "I'm" probably going to end up attaching to the cards today!!!
Nathan doesn't usually get mad when Tyler laughs. Tyler doesn't really do it in a mean way, he thinks Nate's quirks are cute and funny. Nathan's pretty good at being able to "read" us too. Even so, I did tell Ty to stop laughing (when Nathan wasn't looking).
The hard thing, is that when my boys laugh...they laugh so hard that it makes YOU laugh!!!

Oh, I totally understand that. I guess I didn't explain well. Mike doesn't handle any kind of attention well. Especially if you laugh at something he did cute or funny that he didn't mean to do. If you laugh when he is trying to be funny it is ok. This is a kid I can't even sing Happy Birthday too except for when you are bringing out the cake because he doesnt want the attention. ANy kind of attention on him like that is very stressful to him.
I totally get that Tyler was not being mean. Mike is just really sensitive to anytime he makes a mistake at all or does something that causes him to get attention and typically it can cause a big problem. Cait is much more ok with things like that. She can laugh at herself and doesn't take herself too seriously.

That is so cute! I probably should do the same thing myself because DH has a tendency to forget valentine cards!
