breaks my heart. This doesn't give alot of info but my heart hurts for these parents. As far as I know it could have been an innocent mistake on their part. Well I will let you read for yourselves.

Oh man..... breaks my heart too :(. She was prescribed so much, at such a young age, yes I could see it could be accidental, or maybe something else. Don't know until we hear more.
I remember when they prescribed my dd with tofinal for a bit. One night I gave marisa her medication, and then tony gave her a dose as he didn't know I gave it to her.
When I found out I freaked! I called the doc and he said no worries, its okay, she will be fine. But after that I made sure just one of us gave it to her from then on.
It was still scary tho, and thank god she wasn't on long as it didn't work anyway.
I feel for everyone in that family. Especially the little girl :(
This is such a tragedy.
Personally, I think the doctor(s) should be investigated very closely.

That was my feeling paula.
I thought that 2yos was REALLY young to be given a definitive dx, particularly one as serious as BP. Did they look into other causes for her behavior first that could have been medically based? Then those meds for a child that small? That is heavy duty stuff.
I know I haven't been given adequate information on drug interactions with OTC meds in the past with my kids if they were perscribed anything. Mostly I was just poopooed for any concerns. Fortunately I am neurotic and call the pharmacist or go visit prior to giving anything OTC even with cait and trileptal. I STILL at her age and size don't give multi-symptom cold meds.
The only reason I know to ask a pharmacist is because we had one good neuro in the beginning that did warn me about interactions and I had to be careful with OTC meds. None of the rest have.
It isn't like the labels on either the perscibed meds or the OTC meds warn you. The only one mentioned is MAOI's.
I realize I don't have all the info but I like to think the best in people. I can easily see how the parents were told early intervention is key and started this path early to help their girl were given scary diagnosis and followed the doctors instructions. In this case I really have to say I call to question the medical community that diagnosis a child that young and puts them on that level of medication. DEAR LORD! Clonodine, Depakote AND Seroquel in a 4yo?
Renee
Absolutely,
Thanks for the background on the story. I had only been given a link to that one small part of the story which is as I said, very sad.
I will look in the boston globe and such for more info. The poor child.
